Name: Kristine Ristesund
Location: Bergen, Norway / London, UK
My name is Kristine Ristesund, I am 23 years young, dreamer, hopeless romantic and a creative soul with a lot of spare energy to pass around.
I was born in 1989 in the most beautiful city in the world; Bergen, Norway - or what we locals refer to as the city between the seven mountains.
It was here I took my first steps, spoke my first words, and became the person I am today.
I consider myself very lucky to have grown up in such a beautiful country with such a rich history and culture.
I found my interest in photography at an early age, but it wasn’t till I was 14 that I truly discovered what this would mean to me when my camera became a permanent accessorie attached to my arm, and I discovered photography as an art form that allowed me to express my inner thoughts and feelings.
I spent most my hours experimenting with both digital and analogue cameras, and I spent many sleepless nights and days developing my film and prints in my bathroom using natural light and enlargers. It allowed me to create my own style, as well as I gained valuable experience that will always be treasured.
I landed my first photography job when I was 17 years old, for one of the main newspapers of Bergen City; my tasks were ranged between photographing newborns at the hospital, to celebrities, news, sports and accident, and allowed me to get to know the different fields of photojournalism quite well.
In 2008 I decided to expand my knowledge and to join the academic path. I got accepted into Glasgow School of art in Scotland, and did my Bachelor degree in Fine Art Photography. It was during these three years that I discovered my calling, and I found my interest in Fashion Photography.
When I wasn’t busy working on my school related work, I would use my spare time doing research for my personal work and photo sessions.
After graduation I moved back home to Norway, and I was offered a full-time freelance position at the largest portrait studio in Norway. I also kept my job at the newspaper at the photography department.
In October 2011, I achieved one of my biggest dreams. I opened my own studio that allowed me to continue my work on fashion and advertisement, and all the experimentation that I love so much. It changed my world. I had my own space. This allowed me to grow on a technical level, mastering studio lights, and to do commissioned work for clients seeking my services. But most importantly it gave me the freedom to work on my personal photo ideas, and my visions.
I believe that artists view the world differently. I have chosen Fashion photography as my genre within the field, because it challenges you on a new level, and make you explore the world differently. It allows the photographer to create a story within a story. It leaves the audience to both question and create their own vision in one simple image. They say that a picture can speak more than a thousand words. To me, fashion photography adds a lot more zeros to that equation. What is more important is that it is in a global language that everybody can understand and appreciate.
Fashion photography is hard work, but it also allows us to be playful, creative, imaginative, unique and inspiring.
I enjoy art courses extensively, the progression of a project and reflecting on it. I enjoy experimenting with light, color, subject & mediums; mixing & matching the different aspects for individual results.
I am constantly seeking new adventures and opportunities, and I cannot wait to see what 2013 have to offer me.
