My name is Jay. Photography is my passion and a source of pleasure I thrive on for the pure joy of creating art and working with creative people. I love working with people and constantly strive to improve my own technique and to find new ways to bring out the best in others. I have set up Lightsource Studios, Inc. to invite commercial and retail freelance assignments in portrait, fashion and event photography. Rates are provided upon request.
I have completed an Associates Degree in Photographic Imaging as well as a BA with a double major in Studio Art and Art History. I have participated in Fashion Photography Workshops sponsored by leading Photographic Agencies. I have also attended advanced classes in Fashion, Portrait and Night Photography at The International Center of Photography.
In my photographs I seek to create a look that is contemporary and edgy yet classic and formal. I draw my inspiration form ancient periods of art. Ancient Greeks and Romans are unmatched in their depictions of the human form. Egyptians depicted each part of the human body from the angle of view from which they were best defined (faces and legs being shown in profile, while eyes, torso and hands are shown frontally). Among more recent artists my favorites are Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and John Singer Sargent. The photographers I think of most when I work in the studio are James Van Der Zee, Erwin Olaf and Terry Richardson. When I shoot more candid at events I always think of Henri Cartier Bresson. I like all the lines and forms in my images to be esthetically pleasing in a classical sense yet I want my pictures to be from the present time.
In addition to professional assignments I am interested in selective TFI/TFP/TFCD collaborations with models, makeup artists, stylists and students interested in Studio Art, Theatre Arts or Photography, and anyone who is creative, likes to get their pictures taken and would like to engage in a mutually enriching artistic experience. No prior experience is required. _________________________________________________________________
NOTES FOR TFI COLLABORATORS
_________________________________________________________________ Business issues:
All models are expected to sign a Model Release so that we can legally use the images from the shoot. Both of us will have rights to use your pictures in our portfolios for self-promotion only. Neither one of us can sell your images to a third party for other uses.
PROOF OF AGE IS REQUIRED FROM ALL MODELS AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOT. Your Images:
TF collaborators will get an agreed number of images from the shoot. On an average it takes about half an hour to fully retouch and finish each image that you receive from me. So if you get 10 images from a 3-hour shoot I have actually spent 6 to 8 hours on the project. You will have full commercial rights to use these images for your self-promotion. Unretouched Images:
The reason that photographers capture many images is to make sure they get some that are perfect for use. Unretouched images are actually like preliminary sketches made for a painting and really do not represent my completed work. However, you will receive small versions of all unretouched images watermarked as proofs so that you can select your desired images and keep the remaining proofs for private viewing._________________________________________________________________
$$$ NOTES FOR PAID MODELS $$$
I will frequently hire models for artistic photo projects. Please feel free to make an offer with your rate if you want to shoot with me. Please note that you will usually not receive any images from a paid shoot and I will have exclusive usage rights for the commercial use of your images. If you are looking to obtain images for your own portfolio you can either offer to pay me for the shoot or agree to a TFI collaboration so that both of us can obtain images for our commercial self promotion.
