WHY DO I PHOTOGRAPH?

Because I enjoy it.

What prompted me in the first place, why is it that you pursue the sorts of subjects that you do?

In the first place it was for the images of events that my workplace sponsored, the images we were promised never arrived, were shabby and never quite what we wanted or needed.

The reason I now pursue the sorts of subjects that I do is somewhat different. I still photograph for work, Not as much as anything else though although I need to gather a new set of images for new promotional material so that will be occupying me in the coming weeks.

But with my TFP pursuits, I try to photograph models with a difference, I'm not in this for fame and fortune, I like to find models that are unique and give them the best set of images I can see. I guess that is why I shy away from bikini/ralph/fhm type shoots, I just don't see myself doing it better than those who love/pursue it, fine art style/ lingerie, nude, portraits, fitness shoots, alternative stuff I can see it, I can visualise something different.


Where do I expect photography to take me?

I don't expect it to take me very far, it would be good if it became a major income type scenario, but I know for now it won't be the case.

I expect to enjoy it, photo journalism is something that has a lot of appeal to me, but I am yet to learn to tell the story properly, so I have to hone and refine my skills, I think before I can try that out, although I have a few project bubbling away in the back of my head that I would like to try out sooner rather than later, as for my model photography, it is fun, it is my creative release, I can't draw / sing / dance / paint / sculpt / potter / carve ice, but photography for me, has the scientific element, aperture, shutter speed and ISO all have a mathematical relationship, the results aren't reliant on my ability to curve my hand, the ability to see and imagine is half the battle the rest can be learned somewhat and then with collaboration created.


Where do I want to go with photography?

I would love to be good, I would love to be able to create something that is considered worthy of publication or hanging on a wall. My goals as mentioned aren't ralph or FHM, they are for people who appreciate good images because of the intent not because the lovely model has her kit off and you can see her bits.

I somewhat realized why I appreciate the genre of fine art a while ago.

You have no fashion outfit, no exotic colors, not a real lot other than a model and a B&W image to try and create something that makes people go 'WOW'

I would like to achieve that skill and ability to create that on a regular basis.


How would I describe the function that photography performs in your life?

Currently my creative release, my self expression on some level, my personal development, I enjoy it, I like it, I like trying to be better at it, I enjoy trying to be somewhat artistic with it. The reason I currently seek models to work with is so that I have a willing muse and someone to experiment with, someone to try and create something different with. With trying to photograph people who aren't wanting and expecting to be photographed it becomes a chore for both, models want to be there, want results and want to try for hours on end to achieve a result.

Back to the question though, what role, my distraction from work and family. It also gives me insights into my own life and obviously memories of what I have done, been and achieved.
