Meilee (Pronounced May ‘Lee)
Entrepreneur, Model & Motivational Speaker
Meilee, an Oakland native set her goals to become a shining star in the fashion world at an early age. Spurned by this desire and armed with only her natural talent, Meilee moved to L.A. to set her plans in motion and never one to shy from adventure and new challenges to further her passion for fashion, modeling and business!
As a plus sized model, Meilee has stomped the runway for the Jibri, Ashley Steward, Los Angeles Black Business Expo, Little in the Middle, Torrid, Fashion on the Square in San Francisco, Black Buttafli, Bonner Hair Trade Show, Universal Soul Circus, The Black Writer’s Festival and WWD Magic just to name a few. She was profiled in The Industry Cosign, Venus Diva, DV8 Magazine, T.O.M.I. Magazine, Jolie Magazine and a center-fold/fretured for World of Curves magazine in 2007. Her 2007 TV appearances included finishing round three for MoNique’s Fat Chance competition, BET’s Hell Date, and a featured model on Lifetime’s show, Get Married, promotional Model for She by Sheree of Atlanta's House Wives. Also comedian Eric Gold’s DVD promotion material and will walk in the Red Carpet Curves Fashion Show and Curve Appeal.
Continuing on her quest to create and motivate trends, in 2005 Meilee and business partner Aziza, started Optimystic to produce marketable calendars. The vision of the company is to give examples to women that beauty is from within and strength of character is God given. Optimystic’s first project was the “Faces of Color Calendar”. In 2007 Optimystic teamed up with Sommer Green of SommeLovely Productions and created and produced "True Curves"™, calendars that showcase full figured models, actors and every day women. The first edition, "True Curves"™ Pinup Edition 2009 Calendar" was released in winter 2008. The next edition will be released in 2011. The calendars challenge stereotypes by representing women in an array of sizes.
“Our mission is to set examples to women around the world that “beauty” is from within and should not be judged by height, weight, size, style of dress and enhancements to feel accepted and to embrace their natural beauty. Women all over the world will know that their curves are acceptable and can make a strong statement with that alone” says Meilee.
With modeling, and promoting positive ideals for women, Meilee has just begun. Believing that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, Meilee intends to show the world various forms of beauty - ones that give back to her community, uplifts women and are without limitations…!
