I am an art theory and aesthetics professor fascinated with the magic of photographic 'narrative' in personal theatre / fictional documentaries.
I work with modest means. My lighting is natural or from a one-lamp / flash source. My 'mise-en-scene' shoots are impromptu ; my studio locations are simple and makeshift. My beautiful female models present themselves 'ad aperturam' [Latin: "wherever the book opens"] -- that is, they present themselves AS THEY CHOOSE -- THEIR pose, gesture, theme, wardrobe, etc. ... I offer a camera-eye, a spark of energy and encouragement. These (empowered) portrait images are then juxtaposed to images of 'abandon' (e.g. ravaged mother-nature, derelict buildings, scenes of accident or 'mayhem', ... picture a 'Beauty and the Beast' type of scenario). Snippets of word or text add an element of discursive meaning.
I like to think of my overall creative process as 'butoh-esque' in essence ['butoh' from Japanese to approximately translate: "to pull close to the ground"]. My models express themselves as closely as possible to their true inner being ; my cityscape / landscape views of 'abandon' are mirrors onto the reality of current socio-environmental situations.
This photo-art-documentary project, entitled "Qu'Appelle", is destined for book publication and gallery exhibition. I have my scenes of 'abandon' in hand. I come to MM to pair those images with photos of creative, energetic, vivacious female models as captured from unusual angles, in 'exotic' setting, and/or in 'artsy' circumstance.
In compensation, I offer prints, artwork studies, and/or honorarium (i.e. $) plus my abundant appreciation and acknowledged written-credit for participation in the art project.
Bring on your best image-magic and I'll promise to deliver another 'edge' to your portfolio.
