Why am I a photographer?
The short answer is because I'm a very bad and a very impatient painter.
I could not capture a moment on canvas. Any image I created wasn't what I see now before me, it was a memory of what I once saw. And memory distorts, edits and compresses.
The Camera allows me to capture that exact moment. What has passed before, what happened after - is not there. That is a place reserved only to your memory or your imagination. In the photograph before you - only that exact moment exists.
Who am I as a photographer?
In my younger day I aspired to be a photojournalist. My dream was to shoot for Magnum or Agence France-Presse. For almost a decade, I lived the life of a photojournalist, but then life intruded.
After a hiatus of another decade and after much prodding by those closest to me, I decided to once again look through the viewfinder and capture a moment.
Luckily, these intervening years have been very good to me, so no longer will have have to chase assignment after assignment. I am now my own master and most importantly my own editor.
Why am I here?
On one level I am here to refine and expand my portfolio.
But more importantly, my eye has changed. What I desire to create has changed. What I find compelling has changed. I am here for new challenges.
