Here is a glimpse of me:
First, you should know that I am a character. I love to laugh and enjoy myself. Those around me are often laughing because I enjoy entertaining people and showing them a good time. I love to tell stories and anyone that knows me will back up that claim. They would also tell you to get comfortable if I am telling one because sometimes they can be detailed and lengthy, but you know what...they are usually pretty good so get comfortable. About my friends, I am blessed with great ones and a lot of them. I am very appreciative of my friends and all the support they show me on a daily basis. They are a big part of me and my success thus far. One of the things I am most thankful for is my outlook/perspective toward life. I was blessed an optimistic no-quit attitude. Check out my
www.johnsalutare.com for a cool quote that I wrote about that. Ok so now for the meat and potatoes.
I am an actor/model from New York now living in Los Angeles. I was blessed with two loving parents John and Theresa and 2 younger brothers Nicholas and Louis. We had a great family dynamic though out my childhood and I spent my time playing and being a
happy-go-lucky kid. I was born in Yonkers, New York and lived there till I was 5. We then moved to Pine Bush, New York when I was 7 after with a quick stop in Rockland County, New York for 2 years. I grew up a city kid even though Pine Bush was the far from a city. As an Italian-American, the bulk of my family (bulk being the optimal word there) still lived in the Bronx and surrounding areas, so I was always down there and it became a major part of who I am. AI experienced culture, excitement, and exposure to and education about danger, but since we lived upstate it did not define who I was. I enjoyed living upstate and it was a good experience having fresh air lots of space to play and a good safe school to attend. So I made the most it. I kept my focus on my grades and sports and kept my nose clean.
When I was 10 years old, my brother and I spent the summer with my grandparents. It would end up being the best summer of my young life and still ranks up there as my best summer ever. My grandmother was managing a video store then, and my brother and I would go to work with her. I watched every movie in that store, and pretty soon I was the in-store critic giving renters advice on which movies were good and which they could pass on. That was it, I knew then that I wanted to be in movies. I didn't know it then, but I know it now, that was also when I started studying people and their interactions in preparation for the day I would become an actor. It took me a while to take the first step and it wasn't until a few years after of college when I was fed up with my sales job, that I took it, but I have been sprinting ever since.
I started studying the craft of acting at one of those "acting networks" you would hear about on the radio. It was a 12 week crash course on acting and the industry. It was definitely more about making money than training actors, but it was a good place to start. I then moved on to private coaching lessons with Mark Papp. He was a great coach and I learned a lot, but it wasn't until the work I did at Esper Studios in Manhattan that I totally understood this thing called acting. Studying at Esper Studios with Deb Jackel changed my life. The work I did there helped me become a well rounded, better adjusted, self-aware and confident person. While studying at Esper Studios, there came a point when it all just made sense. It was that same moment that I stopped second guessing my decision to pursue this path and just started enjoying everything that goes into being a successful working actor.
A lot of hard work and bartending jobs later, I am still hard at work and making it all happen...and you know what...I do not regret a single day of it. Most people go just go though the motions every day, and then they tell us actors, "oh, acting, that's a hard job, you should think about doing something else." To those people I say thank you for your consideration, but no thank you...I would rather suffer trying to accomplish my dreams, then waste my life doing something just to collect from Peter to pay Paul. And so, I AM AN ACTOR AND A MODEL.
I have been an athlete since I could walk. I started with baseball and quickly took to football. I love baseball, but football is LIFE. I played all 4 years of high school and went on to play Division 1AA ball at Siena College in Loudonville, New York. College was a great experience for me. It was the experience you hope for out of college. A lot of self exploration and the exploration of others. Learning about life, people, and society at large, and of course education. I believe in the value of education, and believe it is important that a person learn both in and outside of classrooms. Following college, I took a sales job for a travel company and was able to fulfill part of a major dream of mine...traveling. I LOVE TO TRAVEL, and want to do as much of it in my lifetime as I can.
I have pursued many opportunities and made mistakes as a result of some of those decisions, but I have always kept my head up and focus toward the future, and I have learned to do so without sacrificing the present. It has been an amazing journey so far, and I can't wait to see what today brings and I hope your there to see what it produces!!
Thank you for stopping by. All the best,
John Salutare
