About MeI enjoy shooting the female figure and the interplay of light and form. I'm easy to work with and encourage suggestions from models. That's the short version so if that's enough for you, you can skip all the text below. Otherwise, keep going for more details.
I always have some very clear ideas of what I want to shoot but I encourage feedback and suggestions from the models I collaborate with. Yes, I'll provide initial direction but I'm not the director and you're not a prop--this is a team based creative process. My best work has come with models who consider themselves to be artists and/or take pictures themselves. Let me also say that I love, love, love shooting with models who have dance or gymnastic background, you understand the importance of hands and feet in creating flowing lines.
My portfolio here on MM is a freebie one because I no longer shoot fulltime or professionally. Accordingly, what you see here focuses on artistic nudes. But if you want a better idea of my range of work, check out the "my work elsewhere" on this profile (which includes a mix of other MM themes), my portfolio at tumblr, or model society, or 500px all under "afplcc" to see more of my work with models.
Among the concepts and techniques that I love to play with are: bodyscapes reflection/refraction, shadow-and-light patterns, and DoF perspectives. When the weather allows it, I love shooting outdoors and especially around water.
While I'm based in the DC area, I do a lot of travel. I've been to every state except North Dakota, had model shoots in 19 states (including Hawaii and Alaska). So I get around.
I like the shoot to be casual and relaxed with banter. Humor is especially nice. If you expect to just show up and pose, we're probably a bad fit as a team. That doesn't mean I'm looking for a friend or a relationship, only that it shows in the results if we had a few laughs or moments of silliness in the shoot. If it's in the DC area, expect me to bring some home-baked goodies plus bottled water and other snacks. Prior to any shoot, expect me to reconfirm with you and provide a lot of details about props, costumes, styling and themes. Hint-hint: that's a really good time for you to push back or ask questions or offer ideas--regardless of your experience level.
I'm fine with you bringing an escort. I'll show you the release ahead of time if you want and am okay about modifying it if you have any special concerns. If you want to check references, contact the models in my portfolio or who left tags. My shooting approach is pretty flexible (though I'm not someone who spends 8-10 minutes setting up for one perfect shot) and I'm willing to adapt my style and posing directions to what will work best with you.
Yes, I do shoot mostly TFCD since I'm not publishing or selling any of my work anymore. Unless you're contacting me to get some specific shots for your portfolio or unless this (modeling) is your fulltime gig, I assume that our initial shoot is likely to be a TFCD arrangement.
Big negatives for me
--no communication (prior to the shoot or during it)
--showing up late or not showing up. If you can't make it or are running late, at least let me know.
--being unprepared for our shoot. That includes being high or drunk.
Finally, if you wonder what the heck "AFPLCC" stands for, well, an instructor early in my career used to yell at us when we'd critique work, "I want to hear A Fresh Perspective, Less Conventional Criticism!" to the point where's he'd jot down in shorthand on a paper submitting analyzing Capa's work or discussion of composition on someone else's portfolio..."AFPLCC." So there you have it--an explanation for my MM handle. And if you're read this far, kudos to you for wading through all the text!
