Mayhem # 940
I figure I need to say this. I don't have anything against retouchers. I really don't. But I can't add all the Retouchers who are sending me friend requests. Unless you have something wild or wacky to offer, or a specific reason for wanting to add me, my default is going to be no. Thank you for your understanding.
I will have a piece in the Breaking Borders show in Detroit later in January. If you're in the area, check it out.

The World as Visual Anthropology
I picked up a camera while studying Anthropology at Michigan State University. One of my professors’ encouraged his students to learn photography as he showed his murky slides taken with a Kodak instamatic. For nearly twenty years, I used photography as a tool: a research tool while studying as an Anthropologist and as a journalistic tool as I wrote about music for magazines. I didn’t think of my photography as an art form at then.
Somewhere along the line, the urge to create images overwhelmed writing and research. My images are informed by visual anthropology as I look for beauty, sensuality and eroticism. I am fascinated by people dancing to their own beat. My images capture fetishists, punks, Goths, rocker chics, pinup girls and body art fanatics. This is my world as visual anthropology.
How I Work
Since I developed my craft shooting concerts and documenting events, my shooting style is laid back. I thrive working in collaboration with models who have a strong sense of self and who bring ideas to the shoot. I do give direction. I do set up shots, I am equally happy to capture the unexpected, the unguarded moment, and the happy accidents that occur during a shoot.
