I'm teaching a workshop for UCLA Extension called "Photographing the Figure in Landscape," which will involve photographing both male and female models in the nude on location, near Lake Arrowhead, CA. There will be between 8 to 18 students total, and the sessions will involve a demonstration I will give, and then students photographing the models. The sessions will be six hours in length.
Although not essential, my preference is to work with models with a dance background. Over the last eight years, I have worked with dancers from such companies as Merce Cunningham, Miami Ballet, Toronto Ballet, and The Iceland Dance Company producing a series called "Defining Eden." A number of images from the project, which explores the spiritual connection between the human and the natural world, can be seen on my website, http://www.birnbachimages.com. The resulting images have been exhibited in galleries both in the US and Japan. This workshop will be an opportunity for students to learn how I approach my work, and gain confidence with this rich subject matter.
Models will be paid $300. for a session, and there will be two sessions over one weekend, mid-September. You can participate in one or both of them, but UCLA will only pay the flat fee, no expenses. Contact me at allen@allenbirnbach.com for more information.
