About Me

Originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado, I have lived in Darmstadt Germany, traveled a bit of Europe as well as traveling all over the US. I settled and lived in northern Virginia for about twenty years. I currently reside in the beautiful and mountainous state of West Virginia. I am married to a fantastic artist and writer who inspires me every day, I have two great kids who challenge me daily with their uncanny wisdom a level of honesty that only children could possess. They are my greatest creation.

My work as a photographer and cinematographer has taken me all over the east coast, consistently providing me with work in and around the Washington DC area for the past twenty years.

My whole life I have been mesmerized by the imagery of the world around me, early on I was mesmerized by the indelible and stark imagery of the Vietnam war news reports I witnessed in the early parts of my childhood as well as the classic images of classic 60's and 70's television. Inevitably I soon developed a passion for images that were visceral and realistic, the kinds of images that captured people's hearts and imaginations. As a teenager in the eighties, I began shooting with a standard 35mm SLR camera, burning roll after roll of film. Not long after I began experimenting with short films in backyards and basements on 8mm and 16mm cameras as well as early single CCD VHS cameras.

Soon after, I moved to Richmond VA to explore the art and music scene at Virginia Commonwealth University, it was an amazing experience…and though I earned no degree in the time I spent there, what I gained creatively was priceless. The real down and dirty and sometimes dangerous environment of living and working on the streets of a gritty city like Richmond was the classroom opportunity of a lifetime.

On what I thought was a brief hiatus from the secluded nature of the underground scene I enjoyed so much, I moved back to Northern Virginia where my obsession with music took hold. Somewhere between 1991 -1995 I joined several serious bands, toured the popular club scene rocking out with some of the areas finest, tossing in a few national acts as well. I loved it! Entertaining people is what I have always wanted to do and the thrill of the crowd's reaction and the ability to find common ground with thousands of total strangers by sharing my writing was one of the best things I have ever experienced. Nothing in the world can compare to the feeling of rock and roll, it's a world of its own!

This is where I met the Sylvester brothers (Blue Ibis Films) I would like to point out that even back then they were a force to be reckoned with! The powerful sounds of their internationally recognized death metal band blew me away! Amazing and intelligently performed and written… something extremely rare for most bands of that genre in my opinion. We ended up playing countless shows together in the tri-state area. Bonding us as musicians as well as mutually creating a sense of respect. In the end we became close friends, sharing not only our similar taste in music, but in scholarly pursuits like history, archeology, philosophy, films and the process of film making and photography as well as countless other subjects.

In the past twenty years I have acquired multiple certifications in the professional audio visual field of design and installation. From boardrooms to multi million dollar war rooms for the US government, I have had the privilege of working in the White House, CIA in Langley VA as well as for the FBI and State Department. I have received several accommodations for my work(s) and I certainly enjoyed working with some of the most important people and organizations in the nation… again, a privilege. Throughout my journey, as a cinematographer, photographer, even a simple Av Tech, I have been inspired by the audio visual field and given the chance I will continue to do this my whole life. More than anything I am a huge film connoisseur, I love all genres, of course I do tend to read, write and watch drama and horror the most, and I guess I am a sucker for the thrill of frightening scenarios, the excitement of the human mind put through the ringer of fight or flight. The psychology of that statement, I find endlessly fascinating.

In my spare time I manage my own film review blog and to be honest, as a filmmaker and photographer, I am my own toughest critic. Honestly though... everybody knows what they want to see in a film (or photograph). I know what makes a scene real and what actually sells the moment. I pride myself on the perfection of that one thing as a cinematographer…realism.
I try to see beauty in all people…any color…any shape, any condition.
I believe the process of capturing a moment in time, a personal expression of beauty is a journey. Anyone can take a photograph…but can you capture the moment of release…the moment when the individual lets go their perceived notions of what they know about themselves?

I wish I could say I am a master of my own philosophy…I am not; I simply have a vision that I would like to follow, and the willingness to move towards it.
I crave this adventure it makes me feel alive, it elevates my passion for life and motivates me to constantly grow…I realize this may sound cliché, however I honestly believe a photograph can heal, it can prevent hatred, it can cause understanding, it can evoke a feeling of common belief.

A single photograph can demonstrate compassion and commonality for one another a thousand times better than words alone; its the very basis of our world as human beings, it could be as simple as beauty itself, or as thought provoking as the darkest moment in our existence…its what bonds us as a human culture.

Perhaps I am a dreamer, but for now I choose to let it absorb me, to set me free if you will…anything to connect, to feel a part of the magic that is the human form.
What would like to get from this site?

Contacts, models, inspiration…the reasons are too many to list here.. However I would like to point out that while I do appreciate nude models and erotic sessions, I don't seek them out. I don't care if the previous thousand guys with loads of digital gear better than mine have said you are gods gift...I am not here for personal interests. If thats a project you and I decide we want to do...great! we can cross that bridge when we get to it. I tend to do odd, complicated creative things...something out of the norm, something unusual and provocative to the mind and to the heart. Am I saying I am better than someone that is really into doing erotic stuff...hell no! I love all styles and forms.

I just want anyone reading this to understand me and to be able to release the fear inspired by the multitude of creepers in the world seeking only pleasure and not inspiration. I want to grow and learn, discover and reveal beauty through the amazing art form(s) of photography and motion pictures.
