Stella McCartney’s party opens London Fashion Week in style
Stella McCartney stole the headlines with a show that turned eveningwear into interactive performance art. Even with Milan and Paris fashion weeks to come, many feel Saturday’s event will be hard to beat this season.
Cindy Crawford pauses daughter’s modeling career
Legendary supermodel Cindy Crawford is putting her 10 year old daughter’s modeling career on hold, regardless of the fact that the young beauty is doing quite well following her mother’s footsteps. Crawford believes that her daughter, Kaia Gerber is too young for a career in the industry at this time. She wants Kaia to wait until she is 17 years old before deciding if she would like to re-enter the modeling world and all the things that come with being a part of it.
Kate Upton lands SI Swimsuit Cover
SI Swimsuit covers have definitely been deemed star-making machines for a long time. Nineteen year old Kate Upton is the newest addition to the cover “family” of this iconic publication. In fact, since Paulina Porizkova, Kate is the youngest model to grace this cover in almost 30 years. The young beauty refers to Heidi Klum and Kathy Ireland as her role models because she believes that they represent smart, beautiful, intelligent and confident women.
Supermodel turns super mogul
Kathy Ireland, who started out as an SI Swimsuit cover model, turned out to be much more than just another pretty face. She is the prime example of a combination of beauty and brains. In addition to being a great model, Kathy Ireland is also a great entrepreneur who was able to parlay her SI fame into a world famous brand, while at the same time maintaining an excellent rapport with the average consumers. Although she was a swimsuit model, she isn’t selling swimsuits. Instead, she is focusing on regular and mundane products that have a large market, such as furniture. Kathy Ireland definitely appeals to one of the most powerful groups of consumers in the world: the average Western mom.
Success without agencies is possible
The Self-Made Model – Success Without Agencies by model Christie Gabriel is a fascinating look at the industry. Christie worked internationally and was represented by Elite, but she walked away from the agencies and achieved even greater success as a freelance model.
Christie told us, “I’ve set out to debunk the myth that a model still needs agency representation to be successful. Maybe that was true 15 years ago, but a lot has changed.” She went on to say, “In fact, in the last 6 years, I have booked far more work freelancing than I have through agencies in the same time frame. Once I realized this, I knew I had to share this information with others. That is why I wrote a book which is part how-to-guide and part behind the scenes journal.”
Model Misty Stachowski wins Fear Factor
Model Misty Stachowski proved that not only is she beautiful but she is also tough, competitive and has more balls than most people by winning Fear Factor (Season 7 Episode 7). Here is what the young, agency represented model had to say about her recent accomplishment: “It was unreal to win Fear Factor. I’m competitive, but that sort of thing doesn’t typically happen to me. I’m thankful to everyone who has supported me on my journey to making it on the show and to my partner for never letting me slow down or give up!” She has a fantastic attitude and we wish her all the best for many years to come.
That’s all for this week. Let us know if you’re in the news or have something to share.
