Cara Mia for Starwear Swimsuits at Southgate Towers

A good friend who I've worked with for a number of years gave me a call a couple of days ago and asked if I was interested in having one of my photo shoots filmed by E! Television. Now, he said there was no pay involved, but I might be interested in the exposure.........well, duh, yes!

Ted (Teddy Ray) had posted a casting call on Model Mayhem, but he wasn't happy with the response and he desperately needed a blonde. It was Sunday when he called, they wanted to shoot on Tuesday, and I was in Ocala visiting with my mom. Fortunately I had the number of a terrific blonde model (Mia Foley) and a super brunette (Catalina White). I contacted both on Monday evening while I was driving back to Miami, and fortunately both said they could be there Tuesday if I could live with some time issues. I had a makeup artist available on short notice (again, good luck), so Phoenix was booked for the 8 AM call.

Mia Foley being interview for E! Television

Ted and the two models Ted had arranged to be here showed up at 8 AM (one, Cara Mia,  had to drive 150 miles from Vero Beach!) and were immediately in the makeup chair. The E TV folks arrived at 9 AM and started setting up to do the interviews around the pool here at Southgate Towers. Mia Foley arrived just behind them, and we did her shoot first as she had to leave before noon. We finished shooting at Southgate at 1 PM, and Catalina joined us as we headed for Virginia Key for the beach photography.

Everything went swimmingly, the whole thing finished with with E interviewing me, and if everything works out we'll see the finished video in early July. No promises of course, and with the exception of Phoenix no one got paid, but if it does run you can't buy that kind of exposure (well, you can, however it is beyond my pay grade!) The premise is a little cheesy (bikini models having fun on the beach), but hey, the rat I am, I'm no stranger to cheese. And I did get all the sponsor product placement I could muster (yes, you are going to see an Alien Bees ringlight, that big white Canon lens, I'm wearing someone's logo shirt on camera, and I managed to work the names of the two swimsuit companies that provide suits into the interview. I'm am the biggest whore in the business........and proud of it!)

https://www.johnfisher.com/images/1Etelevision8.jpg
Note the Alien Bees ringlight, the big white lens and the logo shirt!

In closing, none of this happens without the efforts of Teddy Ray. A great guy, and someone who works tirelessly for his own clients like Starwear Swimsuits. And with any luck, the next time he posts a casting, maybe someone will pay a little more attention!

Yeah, I probably should have posted this in the general forum. This didn't get much action here, but no surprise, photographers really don't give a rat's ass what someone else is doing (Duh!)

I also forgot to credit Ted on all the background shots, he really did a lot of work putting this whole project together as well as shooting a lot of the Starwear swimwear for their catalog. Good man and a better friend. We were assisted by Michael Bays (Isadore Fashion Photo), another good friend who works as a photographer here in South Beach.

Ahhh, the point of the story! Yes, well it works like this. It's not that I've been shot for a nationally broadcast TV program, or that I got to feature a lot of my sponsors' gear for free on the broadcast (I'm sure a lot of others have that happen all the time). The point would be that I got this opportunity because of a member of Model Mayhem, worked with models who are members of Model Mayhem, was assisted by a member of Model Mayhem, and I wanted to acknowledge that here as a way of expressing my thanks to them and the staff at Model Mayhem. (Note the number of links to MM pages in the story!)

https://www.johnfisher.com/images/1Etelevision1s.jpg

As for the picture of Catalina, well I thought I was illustrating one of the story lines in the post, but on reviewing I realize I had left the original self agrandizing photo out of the first post (hard to imagine). So lucky you, above is the shot of me shooting Catalina jumping with the TV camera pointed at me (and my sponsors', light, lens, camera and logo shirt) and not at Catalina. (TV people love action shots, it makes for better video if not great catalog!)

https://www.johnfisher.com/images/1Etelevision5.jpg

So there you go, hopefully this will allow you to go back to drinking your Molson and watching Hockey Night in Canada or what ever guys with cameras do in the great white north!

Looks like a fun day was had by all...and thanx for sharing.

Wearing black in midday sun would never work for me, but everyone including you look great.

You deserve a sponsorship for wielding that huge AB rig ..... a standard profoto ringlight is more than I  care to handhold.

Ahhh, well I did go sunbathing here in South Beach once in my legendary pink thong, but it quickly got very ugly. The people from Greenpeace came along and tried to roll me back into the water! You may have seen the clips on CNN.

Since that day, I have worn slacks and dress shoes, makes it easier to fight off the eco-terrorists. Oh, and I carry a big ring flash!

Well, we placed 9th on the list out of 12 in "12 Sexiest Wet 'n Wild Jobs".

It wasn't from the lack of talent that's for sure. Nevertheless, I want to thank everyone that pitched in and made it happen.

Old news and I'm not looking to get brigged over digging up this thread, but this story just wouldn't be complete without the video. So, now that I have the link for our portion of the show, I can share it with everyone. Yeah I'm still excited about it if you can't tell.

Good job John!   I like you sponsor support attitude, on a related note if you were a brooks institute of photography alumni you get $30 dollars every time you get Brooks name published with your shots, i know some guys who have been working that for years,  every little bit of cheese helps

Did some searches--wasn't able to find it.

Thank you very much.

This is what I did find:

I'm particularly interested since we never got to work together--because the my models didn't show.
Truth be told, I was in some ways relieved, because it gave me a chance to talk--one of the most fascinating fellow photographers!
