take them out and toss into the pool = they float

jump in surgically attached to their owner = they sink

depends on the type of implant.

Saline implants are neutrally buoyant, meaning that they will neither sink or float.

Silicone implants are somewhat heavier than water, and can cause a slight sinking effect.  Very slight.

And I do not know what manswers  is, but it sounds like its not a great source of info, but I could be wrong about them in general.

Saline implants are heavier than fresh water, neutral in saltwater when you include the silicone sack in the measurement (the saline solution is about 22ppt, vs 32ppt for saltwater).

Now, if the woman were bathing in the upper Chesapeake Bay, where the salinity is around 22 ppt, they would be neutral to a bit heavy.    And in the red sea, with its 44 ppt, they would float.

Silicone implants are denser than the saline, being very similar to fatty tissues, and therefore will have about the same buoyancy characteristics.

So, no.  None of the implants will float anywhere outside the red sea.

Facts only an engineer would care about.   This is the "are you a nerd thread", right?

On manswers they said that implants don't float and real breast do float because fat floats.

Disclaimer: I happen to watch this one episode while I was channel surfing.

They don't float but they do bounce off the wall like the parody of Charlies Angels scene on the movie "Scary Movie 4".... or was it 5 or 6.

Only if they are the new inflatable implants that come with a little pump - anyone remember the Reebok pump shoes? Sort of like that. When you need them a little bigger - of if you're drowning - just pump them up and voila!

One tiny correction... you are referring to the Dead Sea at 44+/-ppt.

I think you’ll find that an implant, be it saline, silicone or a mix thereof, will float just as well as a like sized piece of rump roast.

Concrete floats why not silicone wink

Manswers did NOT say they float.

I saw that episode last year.  They said that REAL boobs float.  FAKE boobs do not.  It has to do with the fatty tissue inside the breast being heavier/lighter than the water.  Fake boobs are more dense, therefore they sink.

mmm Boobies!!
oh and Archimedes Theorem of Displacement;   Archimedes' principle - that a body immersed in a fluid is subject to an upward force (buoyancy) equal in magnitude to the weight of fluid it displaces.

Then there is the Dead Sea and Great Salt Lake,

"The salinity of Great Salt Lake is highly variable and depends on the lake's level; it ranges from 5 to 27%, or (or 50-270 ppt).[4] For comparison, the average salinity of the world ocean is 3.5% (35 ppt)[23] and 30.4% in the Dead Sea."

Or 'tits ahoy" only a few places in the world.

(another nerd signing off)
