Have you posted any ads looking for models? Have you gotten any models off craigslist?

I posted one just for the hell of it, and got crap as far as quality goes... girls that just had this random want to "model" - although I found one that I think may have the potential for it, and hell, as long as I get what I want do I really care if she ever does it again?
Although I believe she's going to drive me bananas! I keep getting the same email, is this free, are you charging me for this - and I explain TF 923847298 times. Randomly I get an email telling me she's bringing her husband. I told her OK, but if he thinks he's going to tell me anything about anything but my shoes are untied I'm ending it where ever we are.
OH - and the best email yet "SO HOW ARE WE GONNA GET MONEY?" - do I look like a "manager"... good lord.

I foresee this as a mistake lol.

Anyway... your stories?

I tried the CL thing once and it was about the same. I have done much better posting casting calls on Mayhem.

i tried it once. it wasn't very fruitful. in fact, i was debating calling the pound and telling them i had info on some of their escapees.

the mayhem works.

Since MySpace has gone the way of the overflowing spam toilet that it is, CL has become my main source of photosubject recruitment.

This is partially because I live in a relatively rural area. But also because I really don't need a super-specific body type.

When I post an ad, I intentionally have them contact me through my official website thereby forcing them to view it & (hopefully) browse through my gallery. smile

Whether this fun factoid helps you or not, I haven't a clue.

Out of the 5 scheduled shoots I've managed to get my hands on, 3 of them have been on MM 2 on craigslist.

One of the MM ones showed, the other 2 didnt. Both CL ads showed up.

And I'm working out things with 2 more CL's as well.  Both seem very promising.

I've done far, far better with model's on CL than I have done with MM. Having said that, I have noticed that perhaps 60% of the models who respond to my CL ads also have MM profiles.

Well i have done this several times and have had pretty good luck, now don't get me wrong out of about 15 women that responded to the add only 3 were what i was looking for. But from my experience on craigslist YES you will get a lot of amateurs but in my opinion that isn't always a bad thing as i myself would rather shoot amateurs as there easier to work with and a bit more appreciative of the work you produce, but again that's my opinion lol.

Happy shooting all!

I posted a casting call sort of thing on Craigslist and all I got was an Xbox 360 box with nothing in it ..

smile

I'd rather hunt for models at closing time for bars, than use Craigslist. Only because personally my experience with dealing with anyone there makes eBay look like a nice place to buy from.

I've had pretty good luck with CL. Last few times got one good response each time I posted an ad, but my last posting has gotten about 10 responses and I've already shot two of the girls. All TFCD, all have done nude work.

I look for work sometimes on CL but end up being a cover up for escort services or some weird shit, hardly ever proffession actual gigs. It drives me crazy. Once in a while something worth looking will pop up but not usually..

I had applied for casting in my area to be on the cover of a Christian book but I was never picked out of the final list.

I check both CL and MM for casting calls if I'm not already busy looking around. But I've come across scams that I didn't know were scams til I said I wanted to work for them... Then I had to block them from my email. I get good and bad.

This is pretty accurate in my experience with Miami castings on CL. Meh, about 1 in every 100 is legit, even then, it may not work out for any number of reasons. Typically a lot of explicit work is posted there.
They title some listings to cater to failing models, its very sad to see how easy they make it for models to enter into porn.

I have gotten quite a few good models from Craig's List.  I post an ad there looking for models once a year or so.  Of course, I get many more flakes than people I actually end up working with, but that's the way it always is.  And the fact that I pay the models I work with also helps.

Every time I try and post an ad on CL looking for models, some a-hole flags it. I've given up.

i've had a few hits with Cl but most of the time it's misses.  My avatar is a CL model, wonderful to work with and probably one of my better.  actually, now that I look, most of my portfolio currently is CL models; while some of the models are MM models, i found them through CL first.

You are a model, but you say you posted on CL looking for models. I'm puzzled.

What did your ad say and offer? The wording of an ad has something to do with what kind of talent you attract.

Similarly, if you spoke in your ad the way you do in the post, you might not have attracted the best talent.

I've scoured my postings trying to figure out what was a violation of TOS, can't figure out anything other than anyone can flag anything they don't like for any reason and that's good enough to get your post deleted.

The first model I shot with and a couple of others came from Craigslist.  The first one was great, and she turned me on to Model Mayhem.  I haven't used Craigslist since those first few shoots.  I will say that I didn't have any flakes from Craigslist and all of the models I shot were pretty good.

I have had very good results from CL.  Of course, you get plenty of bad models replying, but it is easy to weed those out based on their response and the samples/links they send.  I've found on CL I tend to find more unusual/alternative models and more models willing to try something a bit more eccentric than on MM.  Just like on MM, you do get what you pay for.  If professionalism and reliability are paramount for the shoot, I'd suggest a reliable agency over MM or CL.

I have a theory that models, after they reply, flag the post they have just replied to.  That way they are cutting down the competition when the post is subsequently removed (after a few such flags from other models.)  I've had quite a few modeling gig posts that in no way violated the CL posts flagged off.  They tend to be the gigs where more money is offered, which I think might lend some credence to my theory.  Maybe not, but after enough such occurrences, it has begun to seem plausible.

"OMG photographers don't werk for freE!!!?!!? I R a professianal photographer!! we can't do this for free !!! I'm so professianal that I has to use craigslist! here look at my myspace to see my awe-some pictures!!"

i typically get that ad posted about 30 minutes after my posts are flagged and deleted.

same here.  i'd say most of the ones deleted are the ones were I'm looking to do tfp...  apparently, tfp isn't considered a payment (or at least that's the feedback I got once).

I'm also usually pretty clear about what i'm looking for and what kind of photography that I want to do and sometimes even include a small sample photo (apparently photos are also a fast track to flagging), but I still get 'models' that come asking questions that are clearly written.  Sometimes I want to just send them a link back to the post and ask if they read any of it.

Case in point, i put up an ad a day or two ago and got a response today from a model who sent me a link to her MM page.  Now, my ad stated that I was looking for fine art and glamour models AND had my current avatar but her MM page stated among other restrictions that she didn't do any nudes.  Oh, that and she was coming from really far out of town, like a 3 hour drive...  I just don't understand why you'd respond to an ad without reading it.  That's what gets me the most

really?  see then that goes opposite to what my experience is.  Though it makes sense for your case, I'm sure that my ads are being flagged because I'm looking to do some tfp.  In my mind, if you're on CL you're probably a new model with little or no experience, and if I'm going to pay a model it's probably not going to be an inexperienced model (the rational is that an experienced model would probably be agency represented and or have other means of finding work other than CL)

looks like it depends where you are, being in the suburbs of the suburbs of suburban Seattle it works for me. Sounds like the bigger the city the less it works?? Or something like that. One of my models from cl is here now and won a photoshoot with Billy Pegram using one of the pics from our session. I suck, but at least somehow one of the pics I composed helped her career a little bit.

I have had amazing luck on craigslist. I'm probably good at weeding the crazies out at this point though. My image of the bondage in a dungeon was taken at a shoot I found off craigslist that paid four hundred bucks for photos that were non-sexual. I have also booked a gig from Robert Adler from craigslist. I think it is a great resource. I don't know how good it is if you are not interested in fetish gigs though. Typically people on craigslist will pay more than on model mayhem where they just send out mass inquiries for trade shoots. Nothing against trade shoots but I like money sometimes too smile
