I contacted playboy to submit photos (through the email posted on their website) they replied a couple hours later saying although i was a 'beautiful young lady' they could not accept me because i live in canada, and they do not provide working visas. they gave me an email for special editions becuase they sometimes shoot in canada. I contacted special editions on thursday sending a few photos and they said they loved my look but they needed to see more pictures before they made a decision and they need to know more info about myself than i provided even though i had already told them quite a bit. i sent them more pictures on thursday and have yet to hear back from them.
my question is just should i be hopeful? im not sure if they reply to everyone? if they dont reply to everyone it would be a good sign they replied to me, but if they do reply to everyone i may just be getting my hopes up for nothing. i also want to know because i want to know whether i should get my hopes up or not. just want to hear from some people who have submitted to playboy what their ecxperience was like, what feedback they got!?

Actually, they do reply to everyone.. its professional courtesy.
IMO, yes, you are likely just getting your hopes up.  Take a look at the last 12 months of Playmates.  You really don't compare, though you are "cute".  You just aren't the Playboy type girl.
I did also note that your profile has no stats, and you said NO to nudes.  If by chance you referred Playboy to your MM profile, or if they found it and saw that, they would automatically think you are reluctant to pose nude, and trust me, PB has no time for even the slightest reluctance.

how the fuck do you know????..playboy has been shooting "gnds" for 50 years...most of them were "reluctant"...traditionally Playboy wanted exclusivity to a model's nude images..

i hate when people think they know something...and post shit as fact..

to the OP, you are probably not going to get into the main USA magazine, but you could probably do some modeling for them..

It would be hard for me to disagree with anyone more than I do with you right now.

She's very definitely Playboy material, girl next door face and one hell of a body.  As far as her stating she doesn't shoot nudes.... my guess is the majority of their playmates shot their first nudes with Playboy.

OP, my guess is they are interested.... but it's only a guess.  Just like any casting, you have to wait it out.  Be hopeful, but don't put your life on hold about it.

playboy has lots of different types. and as for the 12 playmates of the year you are referring to, i stated i was contacting and talking to special editions, which is completely seperate from being a playmate. the no nudes is for this site. playboy will not hire anyone who has nudes published anywhere else. so if i am going to do them, i only want to do them for playboy. its not that im reluctant, i just want to save it for a good oportunity instead of a random photographer. they will not look for my mm profile and base a no decision on that. if anything they would be happy to know im not willing to shoot nude for anyone else... thanks for just replying with a bunch of info you pulled out of your ass though

Actually many models apply for playboy and would only do nudes for playboy and no one else, this is quite common and they dont give a fuck about MM profiles for the matter either. they dont have time to look at shit like that..I'm sorry do you work for PB? then you don't know what they want.. she can be cute and still be playboy material, I can't believe u are acting like u know everything about PB when clearly you don't.

Special editions doesn't give a rats ass whether you've shot nudes with anyone else or not.

I've shot multiple times for Playboy. My profile states 'no' to nudes and I don't even have a nipple in my port. I actually found the photog I tested with on MM. My MM profile to Playboy and my MM profile to the PB photographer didn't seem to mind...or even mention reluctance. Lol.

I would think that if they requested more pictures and information about you then, there is at least some interest on their part.  If you didn't have the look they wanted, they would just not reply or tell you that you aren't what they are looking for at this time.

This.

When telling them about yourself make sure you're giving them cute and sexy things that you're interested in. They also like girls who are in college. I had to fill out a million page questionaire and then made my bio based on the questionaire, but it just try to make yourself sound sexy and fun.

????????????

I have submitted to several publications and the only time they respond is if they are actually serious.  It is also a pretty well known fact that most Playboy models started their nude career with Playboy.  They want models that no one has seen and that don't come with a preset style/technique.

You're a beautiful girl starting your career in modeling.  Don't end that career by posing for something as lame as "Sexy Girls Next Door."  If they call you in for a Playmate test, then maybe.  But posing for their periphery publications and websites isn't that lucrative and isn't a career builder (as far as commercial modeling is concerned).  Aim higher. Try to get agency representation.  Try to get commercial work that pays more then a few hundred bucks a day. Try to do something you'll be proud to show your grandma.  If you're going to get naked in front of a camera, do it for the sake of art, not because it might get you into the "Midsummer Nights Dream Party."  That stuff may seem real glamourous from Canada, but if you've lived and worked in Los Angeles, especially if you've worked for them, you realize that Playboy is no different then any other photographer who just wants to get you naked for the camera.

I realize that this opinion won't be real popular around here.  It seems the wet dream of half the "photographers" and models on this site is to work for Playboy.  I don't know why.  They own everything you shoot for them, they only pay you once, and that pay isn't very much.

A lot of playboy models get used for lots of different shoots. im not looking to do it because it looks glamorous. Also there is nothing wrong with canada, its a great country! you cant really make someone think differently. i think playboy suits my style and personality. thank you for the advice though.

Steaming pile of horseshit.  Too many reasons to bother listing.

Now that you've started a thread about Playboy and your desire to model for them, you can expect a few messages from photographers who will claim to have some kind of "in" with the magazine.  Be very wary of them.

To the OP: In your photo submission, did you send any topless photos? It has been my experience (actual experience with Playboy going back to 1982), that unless you attend one of their casting sessions, they will need to see something topless of you before they will take you seriously. The reasons are obvious: 1) they want to see what you actually look like, and 2) they want to make sure you will pose topless (or nude) when the time comes. That is what they don't have time to mess around with. I'm surprised they're asking for more personal info at this point, because if they don't like your look, or you won't actually pose nude (or topless), they can't use you no matter what your personality. To Playboy the look is everything. The lack of serious body shots in your MM porfolio makes me wonder how much shooting you've done (no need for nudes - I understand the "Playboy only" concept and its perfectly understandable), so I wonder what you are sending to them?

Their comment about the visa is legit. When I found and submitted Jayde Nicole (PMOY 2008) she had the same problem since she's from Canada as well, and working visas are very hard to get. But they REALLY liked her and figured out a way to make it work after they brought her to LA the first time, now she lives here. My suggestion is to find a local photographer you trust, do some simple topless photos (at least) and send those in. They don't have to be fancy, no need for pro makeup or styling, just good clean shots to show what you look like. That is how you will know if they are seriously interested or not.

No need to be unprofessional with profanity.
As far as the low down, the truth is I don't think she has a strong enough look.
I've been working with Playmate centerfolds since "95", my best friend is "95" Playmate of the year and yes I know some Playboy photographers as well.

You don't need to be an expert though, to know, just a good eye. Its common sense.
I don't think she has a strong enough look, either that, her pics in her port are misleading. If the OP wants the low down, message me and I can forward your email to some one who knows and works for Playboy...

But, I know who's good to submit and who may not have a chance, based on looks alone.
I don't voice from my personal choice, but from what Playboys actually likes and what they want.. Not just nudes, a strong model...

If your wondering, Playboy asked me to shoot for them, but Penthouse made me a better offer and the penthouse Pet centerfold (model) layout I shot for the magazine, became penthouse pet of the year..

I also think the models look is still young and should maybe grow in to her look a little.. In some of her pics she looks like a girl starting high school... Of course Playboy uses young models, but they look...well....... grown up all over........
To the OP give your self some time............

As a photographer, I posted some questions to Playboy and they did answer me back within a few days. If you read the Playboy website there requirements are fairly simple for making a submission. You can have hair and make-up done. You have a choice of some clothes and body shots. Great photography will help but is not manditory. Playboy has a lot of experience viewing photographs of models and judging how to make them fit their mold. Editing a photo is a NoNo as Playboy want to see you in your most natural state.

Although I have never photographed for Playboy, I have photographed several Playboy models and gleened a lot of information from them. You can see one of the model named "Marketa" here on my profile (if you don't know who she is, just type "Marketa" into Google and you will see her at the top of the list), then get a life.

In the 1980s I took a glamour seminar with Ken Marcus, who provided a wealth of knowledge how Playboy choose models, photographs them and portrays them in the magazines. Where there is quite a number of full bodied, big breasted models featured in the magazine, there are also beautiful normally proportioned models shown too.

Where I am going with this is that if Playboy has continued to show interest in you, follow their suggestions. It is very easy for them to say thanks but no thanks. In your case they have provided you some hope, so follow the yellow brick road and see where it goes.  I think you look great enough and can't see any reason not to look forward.

need I remind people that Pamela Anderson, one of the most well known of Playmates, was from Canada?

to the OP, I think your best best to really get an idea of where you stand is ask one of the Playboy photographers on here, especially David Mecey. He's super-nice and will always respond.

My best advice is if they need more pics, find someone capable of shooting Playboy-style pics to give you at least a little advantage. Playboy's always looking for new faces and it usually takes several attempts, so don't give up!

take andy's advice as one who responded who knows.  swinskey as well.  blow off the advice by the one who said to be discriminate in opportunity if it comes knocking.  any foot in the door is better than the door closed.

as a side note, pb due to hard times is looking for more than just those posing nude.  the new direction is charm, intelligence and the ability to be a strong brand ambassador.  in a nutshell, they are seeking those with the full package.  if you can't turn that on like a light they'll see it and know you aren't for them.  if you can, that as much as a hot body creates the in.

I think your face is the kind playboy looks for, but they tend to swing to one look or another for a bit at a time - like blonds for a time (I blame the boss for that).  But by no means does that mean you would not be selected for a PB publication, there are a lot too choose from.

The open castings, if you can get to one are a good way or really good images from an experienced photographer.  Really I would say not to give up the idea, if its important to you, until they have turned you down several times.

All this stuff about location, Toronto is a major metropolitan city and I recall PB has done shots in CA before.  Although a visa is difficult for a model to get if he/she wants to come and work in the US it isn't as hard for a US employer.  Granted it still isn't easy, but its possible whereas an independent model has very very bad odds.

I've actually posed here in Canada for Playboy photographers. Once for David Chan at a hotel in Vancouver where about 2000 women showed up for a competition/shoot....and then I posed again for Ken Honey who approached me in Vancouver and then we shot a couple weeks later in Deep Cove. I would try to reach Ken Honey if I were you...he is one of their top photographers and actually lives in Vancouver. (or at least he did)
Good luck!

There are many people on this site who claim to be affiliated with playboy so its hard to decipher who is legitimate and who is not. my pictures on this profile are not what i submitted. it was a different look and i did submit topless photos. the pictures were professionally taken though.
jayde nicole is definitely one of my favorite playmates too smile
im serious about pursuing this, and until they stop replying ill keep trying!
this forum wasnt really for people to judge whether or not people think i have the potential, just more to get feedback on people's experiences. thank you for everyone responses a lot of them have been very helpful!

Paul Buceta is an official Playboy photographer in the toronto area. I sent you a message regarding this. He's also shot with Jayde, among many other models from Toronto, and other parts of Canada and the US, as well as having shot at the Mansion in California. Hope that helps. Cheers !

Over a number of years, yes I have submitted a decent amount of material to PB, and YES, they reply every time.  Its what any professional does when an inquirey is submitted.
Secondly, to the those who felt so important that they had to spout off, I DID say "IMO", and secondly, OP's question appears geared toward feature model, not GND.
Obviously, those who spouted have had GREAT success with PB, so go with whatever they tell you, and Gooooooooooooooooooood Luck!  smile

I have submitted to several publications and the only time they respond is if they are actually serious.  It is also a pretty well known fact that most Playboy models started their nude career with Playboy.  They want models that no one has seen and that don't come with a preset style/technique.

Usually when someone is paying $15K + for the model IF she goes through AND is fit for purpose - and has paid $2,000 flight, accoms, meals, wardrobe, location, photographer, assistants, catering ( not same as meals ) etc etc adding up to over 10,000 whether the model performs or not - despite the fact they want to hold exclusive PUBLISHED nude rights - they will want to see that she

- WILL pose nude
- WILL BE WORTH shooting - they think in terms of ROI

Playboy doesnt care if you have nudes published elsewhere..

in fact there are several gals who shot for Penthouse..Hustler and Playboy..

Playboy several times....

it just depends on your celebrity status..

and the content they are choosing for that issue..

Are you SURE about that?

Sounds like an interesting concept but I think you may be mistaken.

OP, there IS an easier way.  Playboy is NOT an insignificant publication. It uses a handful of photographers over and over again (with some contribution from outside photographers.)  You should be able to easily Google the name of any photographer to determine if s/he has legitimate ties to PEI.

Also, as small as the group of Playboy photographers IS, the group of photographers who actually shoot for the main magazine (as opposed to Special Editions and/or Online outlets) is even smaller.

I honestly don't think that is true. I may be wrong, but I can't see the Mods taking time to research if a photographer's claim of working for a specific publication is true.
