Hi,
I'm looking to make the jump from amateur to professional photographer and I'm seeking an assessment of where my skill level is and where it needs to be.
I've only recently updated my MM portfolio so its a fairly accurate reflection of where I'm at currently.
My primary interests are in fashion and wedding photography.

Being essentially self-taught, I would also appreciate any mentorship from professionals who can provide continued feedback on my work and guide me in the industry. I'm located in Sydney, Australia but the mentor/s does not necessarily need to be in the same area. I'd appreciate any industry pros that would be able to provide some guidance eg. via MM or email correspondence.

Kind Regards
Dave

I've been reading through this for an hour and I find it VERY interesting.  I'd like to be a mentor but I've never actually had my own port critiqued.  I'm a self taught photographer that remembers how tough it was at first to get questions answered and techniques mastered.  It was even tougher learning how to edit and get clients but I've been pretty successful over the years now and I'm more than willing to share.  How do I go about doing that?

Thanks.

Okay, I know, I'm not bad, But I know, I could be better with help. I want more out of what I can do now. I would, definitely, appreciate my portfolio being assessed... Please. Thank You all for doing what you are doing.

Hello,

I posted in the old thread of the list a few months ago and messaged some photographers near me and didn't hear back from any of them about a mentorship. So I was wondering if there were any photographers near Atlanta that wouldn't mind helping me out some?

Also, I did get some advice from a photographer about my portfolio soon after I posted and wanted to see if someone would help me organize/rate my portfolio as it is now.

Thanks,
Austen

I would be willing to post this on my page.  I have lead a few newbie's to this page, and worked with many of them.  I was originally looking to add the model Mentor link, but seems he is not getting back to me...lol.  Oh well.

Actually thats not the way this works Joe.  As you should have read from the first post.

If you wish to mentor, ask to be included in the 2nd List Mentor In Photography.  Floyd Baker runs this list, not me. I'm just posting for clarification.  I have not even looked at your portfolio or checked references or anything. I have no clue if you are qualified or not to be a mentor and I'm not going to check.  If you wish to assist photographers in your area please consult either the General Industry forum or the castings.  Some times people do post looking for assistants (its rare I should warn you).

I did receive some great mentoring from Ken Edgar earlier on and I forgot to mention this. He gave me some really useful advice on both my Model Mayhem page layout and the photos I have on here.

I just put a new set of photos (Couples' photoshoot). I could definitely use another set of eyes.

I would like a portfolio review, if possible.

I'm aiming towards becoming a published fashion photographer, while still being able to be creative and have my own style.

If anyone could give me their honest thoughts, that would be much appreciated. I'm working hard to get better. smile

Re this exchange, it looks like there was a glitch in the system from the out of sequence posts and the one quoted by AVD AlphaDuctions which is now missing.

C'est la vie.  smile    No harm done.

I would be interested in a review of my portfolio by the mentors.  I have more pictures that I havent posted here as well, so maybe it is simply showing those instead of ones I have on here.

Cant wait to here comments.

Thanks

Dear Sirs,
My wife and I work together as photographers and we would like to become mentors for photographers and models here in Bangkok. I have been shooting for 44 years doing advertising, corporate and editorial work while my wife DK, has been working with me for the last 17 years.  We are with Getty images as well as Masterfile and several other smaller agencies. We shoot models constantly and interestingly enough, my first gig 44 years ago was with a model agency doing model portfolios. So based on our extensive experience we would like to offer our services as a photographer and model mentors. We see that you have a mentor in Pattaya but none here in the main city of Thailand, Bangkok. The fact that my wife who is Thai can speak the language also opens the door for Thais to take part in this program.

We are currently mentoring five young Thai photographers for the Young Photographers Alliance in New York -http://www.youngphotographersalliance.org/

You can see our work and our resume here on MM at #1903392 and on our website at
www.codyphoto.com

We think you will find us qualified in all areas and hope to work with you soon,
Duangkamon Khattiya and Dennie Cody

Thanks for adding us to the list for photographer's mentors but we were hoping to be added to the models mentoring list as well. You sent two replies with the same link in both was that unintentional and the second should have been the modeling link?

Please request model mentorship on the 3rdList itself.  The second pm here happened in error.  A twitch on hitting reply...   Sorry for the confusion.

Appreciate the thread and all the help and knowledge the more experienced photographers are willing to share.

I would like to have my portfolio assessed; I already have in mind what some of my issues are but would like to see what a more experienced eye sees.

Thanks!
