May 30 13 04:09 pm Link sure u have alot more on my fb [hotopage if you wish to look at them May 30 13 04:16 pm Link This is a fun thread and there are no harm in games. Just remember that photography is not an hourly industry. Commercial work is billed by the service and product delivered. Factors such as experience, time put into each job are naturally counter intuitive. (i.e. Consider the commercial/celebrity/advertising photographer with significant experience who can setup, shoot, and exit a studio or location in the time it takes a less experienced photographer to do the same.) The value of what one should be paid is largely dependent upon the perceived value of the photographs (the product) being generated. An image of a commercial item that when sold stands to create no insignificant revenue for a client is worth more than an image that only a few may have a passing interest in. Again with sentimental photography (weddings, babies, seniors, etc.) the value is whatever those moments are perceived to be valued at. With the latter, this is why sales play such an integral part of the process, the photographer is convincing the parent (buyer) that this moment will never come again, etc., etc. Remember that when determining our base rates (the cheapest we are able to charge and not dip into the red): we should all be calculating our individual 'Cost of Doing Business' and basing the absolute minimum we are able to charge per day off of this number. If we charge hourly, even a job that pays $175/hour (Awesome right??!!!) may mean leaving considerable revenue on the table because that job may actually be worth $4,500 (a number that a client has paid before for similar work and likely won't flinch at) ...but you're accepting $1,050. End 'Food For Thought' and we return you to your regularly scheduled thread. Happy shooting!! May 30 13 04:28 pm Link hope i'm not too late to the party.
