Every time I hear the word Merkin in the forums I think people are talking about some sort of sandwich from a fast food restaurant big_smile It just has that sound to it

...then I google it and remember :-|

I've purchased a few along with spirit gum which is used to hold them in place.  I was hoping for an alternative to give models a more natural look.  However, I did not find them useful for photography.

I was recently at a  burlesque show and  the gals were all adorning their merkins..
At the end of their kick line performance one of the merkins fell off and the gal was standing center stage in all of her glory with her vertical smile and smiling at all of us...  Bravo!!!   I would like to work with that performer..

So my answer is not yet.

Interesting point of view. We were trying for a '40s period pinup look.

I'd rather request the model grow it out naturally in advance of the shoot, assuming you've pre-planned the shoot, and you've had pre-shoot discussions with the model far enough in advance.

The merkin just looks too fake

Was it Crazy Horse? I know they use merkins there to make all the girls look uniform. It also provides some modesty, despite it being a full nude show.

It would take MONTHS to grow it to full bush status. Possibly the model wouldn't be getting the type of work she normally does because she's growing her hair out for ONE shoot.

I could see with all the photoshop manipulation you do that you wouldn't need one.
