Hi guys and girls,
As you are probably i'm really new to this so I will ask my questions and hopefully become wiser in the industry.

A bit of background on me, I work in fashion, and am surrounded by beautiful women all day long, however I never did my own shoot. Well the time has come for me to do it, and as such I would like my first time to be different (#nohomo smile)

Since i am a good basketball player, I wanted to do a themed basketball shoot.
I will wear the basketball outfit, with a ball or two, and there will be girls involved. However I havent decided what to do with the girls in terms of poses/outfits etc.
The photographer suggested cheerleader outfits, however I am not really for it as it is cliche. Since I googled around, I couldnt find many basketball themed shoots (most of them had just guys in it, or were rather uncreative).

I need help/advice on how to position the girls (the poses, pouts, positions), as well as what outfits to dress the girls in. I was thinking of getting girls who are athletically fit and dressing them up in gym outfits/shots and ts, but am open to any kind of criticism, ideas.

Let me know your thoughts, and once the shoot is done, I will post pics here. Bear in mind I have been planning this for a few months already (finding the photographer, choosing the models, booking a court), so I won't do it until I'm 100% ready, but I hope that your opinions will help.
Keep well
Zmaster

Zmaster, you might get more mileage out of your question in one of the industry forums like Model Colloquy or Photography Talk:

That said, just throwing around some ideas (not necessarily good ones!):

Try looking at existing sports photography (Sports Illustrated, etc.) and advertising images for inspiration
One-on-one shot, male vs. female (I can picture this in my head, could be powerful if done right)
Female versions of iconic basketball images (Jordan free throw line dunk, Jordan jump man, etc.)
Basketball in unlikely locations (desert, etc.)
Non-basketball wardrobe with otherwise all-basketball shots

Good luck!

PS. Since your project is so specific, you'll want to post a casting call for it. You can do so here:

"The photographer suggested"?  If this is your vision and you brought the photographer in and he is not following your vision, hire another photographer.

Yes, putting a different than normal twist on it can work. Normal attire in non-traditional basketball location, unusual attire in normal basketball location, perhaps the girls in the sports outfits and you as the cheerleader, substitute something different for the basketball, like a large melon, balloon, or bowling ball, etc., an arrow through the ball, shot by you to prevent a basket....
Put a different twist on what is expected as "normal".
