I shoot live musicians as well. Mostly metal genres. I typically shoot on 35mm or fuji 3000. I haven't been shooting for very long, and I'm in no way a pro, but I do have fun with it!

This is one of DN's favorite pictures of the two of them - they have been best friends since they were teenagers:

This is one of my favorite shots ever because of what's going on but it doesn't get much love for some reason. Meh.

You do some awesome work. Was that Nine Inch Nails's last show at Bonnaroo in 2010?

Edit: I posted that before I noticed the caption on the bottom right corner. I was shooting that show also, but was in the very crowded photo pit. I didn't realize it was 2009, I was trying to decide if it was last year or the year before. I thought they belonged on Which Stage instead of What Stage. But they did a freaking great late night show.

I turned my back on live music shortly after shooting this - I couldn't continue to make a living from it. It was fast becoming a labour of Love, No Money.
It's even harder nowadays!

Thanks very much, Glenn. Yes, it was 2009. That was a great show; I think I cried for most of it because it was supposed to be their last for a long time.

I shot from the pit too but damn, the height of the stage of it made it really hard to get anything. That's one reason I don't like to shoot festivals!

Those are some awfully long lenses for a cell phone. Not very noisy for a point and shoot.

Are you implying that you're shooting film?

I just shot them with this:

Nikon Coolpix S8200, a point and shoot.

If I had press passes and save up for a DSLR, I think I would be able to do so much more!

Proof that DSLRs are over.

You'll have larger files which could be helpful.

Your photos may not be better with a pass because you'll be shooting from under the artist rather than level with them.
