No amount of redesign is going to wash away its reputation as the bottom of the social networking barrel.

MySpace has been "revamping" their design several times over the course of their demise.

I still remember GeoShities (Geocities), and AngelFart (AngelFire). tongue I still remember compu-serve forums (which are more like chat rooms).

AOL chatrooms.  you used to be able to create your own.  i would always be in "jesus sucks" when i could.. it filled up pretty quickly.

but myspace is the one that stuck for the longest.

As someone who earns a living on the internet I believe it will come down to who can build a platform which effectively combines user experience with advertising.

The age of solely winning the largest user base is over.  Facebook won that battle.  Now they are struggling to realize how to monetize it.

I don't really understand why people disliked Myspace so much.  It was easy to manage, super user friendly compared to Facebook.  If someone could enlighten me...I'd be curious to know!

It's not that FB was better. But people developed a complex that they were better by virtue of being on FB. Keep in mind, that at first, FB mostly catered to college people. Myspace had become a huge free-for-all, which is what Facebook now is. Things went full circle.

Now there's a bunch of additional social networking sites like Twitter (only one I ever used), instagram, tumblr, and a bunch more.

But to each their own.... because, I don't fully understand the draw to Twitter...I never use mine.

Services will continue to come and go. It's human nature to rebel and not use your parents social media. Or what you used last month for that matter. I was a late adopter to facebook and now hardly use it. Never used twitter and don't plan to. I've started using google+ but even that's starting to tire. There's hundreds of social media sites created by startups that most of us don't even know about.

The evolution will likely continue to integrate communications (email, sms, chat, forums, phone, documents, applications, etc.) until they're hardly distinguishable. Google has made a lot of progress but they may not be the ultimate winner.

btw, I see your Compuserve and raise you my local BBS.

What?  No more 'glitter gifs"?  No more red text on an orange background?
You mean people will actually be able to see and read things on someones myspace page?

This aint April 1st, is it?

I've found some pretty good models through MySpace, but I don't really visit more than a couple of times a year anymore.
