They never require you be an actual amateur, I was always up against a trained pole fitness instructor and several other had-been strippers. They only make you promise you're not currently working in a competing club

The ones around here don't even do that.

"Amateur nights" here are basically for girls who work at other clubs, and just need some extra hours.

You occasionally get some newbie dancers, but most are seasoned pros, at any amateur night you attend.

I would *guess* that LV would probably be towards the stricter side of things.  I would guess they probably check about competitors.  They tend to be super srz about this stuff.

Oh - that's so easy

I did a study MANY years ago about dancer classifications and the tip rail.

After a while the rhythm of the place can be seen and patterns emerge.  (Turned out there were only 7 types of nude dancers)

But, there was only one time - one dancer - and one song - that brought the place to a halt

One of the best Dancers I ever saw used the name Cameron. - and she had a routine to the Tears For Fears song - "Woman In Chains"  The damned thing is near 7 minutes long.  She was an amazingly beautiful woman and was graceful - really at the peak of her game.

She would only use the song once a shift - and when she did - the whole room came to a stop.  It was like something out of a movie - talking stopped - the hustle stopped - and we watched. 

All these years later - I hear the song and can still see her in my mind.

At the time - LA Area 20+ years ago  3 song sets (Clothed - topless - nude) - attached dressing rooms.

1 - Newbies - awkward and unsure - no set moves - makes good rail for a while

2 - Mirror dancers - Won't look at customers - Dances to the mirrors - poor eye contact - mediocre rail

3 - Clothing dancers - Won't take off that last item - hikes spandex over hips, or pulls top down around waist. - never really nude -  - sometimes hiding stretch marks etc (or just don't like to dance fully nude). - mediocre rail  (subset -  boa dancers - uses props/boa/nightgown as accessory during nude session. - decent rail if good dancer - but never fully nude without prop)

4 - Energy Dancer - athletic and busy - works the pole with authority - nude usually for whole last song - upbeat - Good rail - people appreciate the effort

5 - Repeat offenders - Same moves - same songs - same routine every time - bored looking - poor eye contact, has a "10,000 dance stare" -  listless and sometimes hateful - poor rail

6 - Standard nude - most common - Workmanlike - clothed/topless/nude - Experienced and skilled - know what works for her - usually nude only at the end of the set - Has a variety of moves and changes up things between sets (But, sometimes repeats herself) - uses different costumes to start out with each set.  Good with props - Decent eye contact -  good rail.

7 - Original nude - Everything with the standard nude - plus - more confident - great eye contact - big smiles for each person on the rail - has different routine for each song - emerges from dressing room nude from the beginning of the 3rd song - (can keep the attention of the room without props).  Has a move or 2, that nobody else does - High rail.

Time and tides may have changed things over the past 20 years - but, in the very rare instance when I go to a place - I can still usually recognize the dancers categories and which ones they fit into.

Edited to say ; I Still LOATH Prince's "Purple Rain"  I heard it so many times and it honestly is not a good song to dance to - slow and turgid - *Barf*
