workflow retouch Ellen Von Unwerth style
I've been experimenting a bit on some shots that I would like to give an edgier boudoir style. Does any PS-wizz know how to get this effect (like in the example)?  (C) Ellen Von Unwerth Oct 08 12 02:57 am Link One way that adds contrast is: 1.Hue saturation on its own layer 2.Lower the saturation slider all the way to the left 3.Change the blending mode on the saturation layer To soft light. 4.Lower the opacity on the hue sat layer all the way. 5.Bring the opacity slider back up to your taste. Here is another way: 1.add a adjustment black and white layer above your completed Retouched layer. 2.Change layer mode to soft light 3.experiment moving sliders of colors. A lot of existing light and hard light, without modifiers. She doesn't like to fill, try to perfect light, but particpates in the shoot which is very free. So that look is hard light, on film likely pushed (over exposed the +3) on say VHC or similar. Oct 10 12 07:05 am Link There is no particular process to achieve her 'look'. We retouched her campaign for river island ss12 (http://www.disneyrollergirl.net/high-sp … er-island/) And the look is achieved by a lot of masking and A LOT of adjustment layers mainly focusing on boosting contrast and altering individual colour channels on curve layers. It is not a simple process and it certainly is not achieved 'in camera'. ps. it was shot on canon 5d! I've worked beside Ellen before while she was shooting video, a very cool and seemingly free person. Hence the fun pictures she makes really are fun. Oct 14 12 08:53 am Link I can't see the image but I used to assist Ellen in LA . Loading film for was a bitchcause she shot so fast . She used to shoot contax 645 x2 one with 400vc one with tri x . F6 x 2 same film and 600se with 665 RIP. lighting was always HMI direct with 1/2 frost 4x frame . As for retouching every job is different depending on the client or specific look of the story.
