If you're considering areas, don't count out Long Island City.  It's 1 stop away from Grand Central on the 7, accessible by LIRR, and there are now a ton of cool, less crowded places, some which might even have rooftops.

For example, http://alewifenyc.com/

Or http://www.dominiesnyc.com/ which is smaller, but has a nice patio.

I have the impression that there is not very much of an interest in a get together in the NYC area.

We can possibly fit all interested people into the living room of a tiny apartment in the city... smile

Smaller gathering is better IMO.  I am not very good at the big party scene where I could have just one line conversation - Hey, nice to meet you, catch you later. ....hahaaaaa  smile

Well... we never had a huge crowd, filling a medieval beerhall... but 20 to 30 people showing up... that was pretty cool in the olden days...

Now... I think if we get 15 together, plus/minus 10... we'll be great.
