Didn't look at the pics. No need. The kit lens with a t2i isn't all that great. The two simplest ways to get brighter pics is to use an artificial light (flash, strobe, etc) or use a wider aperture (lower f-stop). Both have advantages and disadvantages depending on the situation. You can also use Photoshop to brighten an image some.

This thread probably belongs in the PT forum.

i get really good results on my Canon 60D with a 15mm Fisheye lens.  On my full frame i get 180 degrees...but doesn't look like you need that much from your samples.

As far as a flash I would say a Speedflash 430 (bigger would be better) or above should do it.

I get fantastic event shots with this diffuser:

I haven't tried a lot of other setups for events...but that is because i never needed more that this lens/diffuser setup gave me.

Good luck.

17-55 2.8 (Canon or Tamron or Sigma) I'd buy a Tamron rather than renting canon's

I would suggest a Nikon D3, D3s or D4 with a 14-24mm f/2.8 and a 28-70mm f/2.8. Flashes a SB-800 or SB-900

I shoot the D3 with the above lenses with a SB-800 with good results.
