A dating website recently defined the perfect man:

- Earns $150,000 to $200,000 a year
- Obtained a Graduate Degree
- Has brown hair with green eyes, an athletic build
- Is a social drinker who doesn't smoke.

Is this true NY?  Where are you mister 'perfect'? :p

LOL. Move to ny? :p

A contact at my day job is actually searching for the perfect man for a feature story in a major NYC newspaper tomorrow.

If you are this guy, or know this guy, let me know and I can set it up. wink

No, I'm only kidding.

I don't make anywhere near that amount, I am a social drinker who doesn't smoke, I have an AAS in Electronics Engineering,  and I have dark brown hair with black eyes.

My husband isn't perfect and neither am I, but we are a perfect fit for each other.

Women who wait for Mr Perfect end up watching Renee Zelweger movies alone on Saturday nights when they're 40.

Why is "obtained a graduate degree" important, since he makes $150,000 to $200,000 a year? since thats not a prerequisite to those dollars

I can't speak for all of NYC, but this is not my personal idea of the perfect man.

What is interesting with this list is what is NOT on it.......

1) age
2) height
3) overall grooming including clothing, facial hair, body hair

I also find it intriguing that, while not stated, based on hair and eye color alone, this man is most likely Caucasian.  In such a large multi-cultural city like NYC, I would not have expected this.  It probably is more reflective of the sample of website users rather than the population.

Not if you are writing tax laws in Washington.  That range of "wealth" is considered highly taxable.  And it doesn't matter that this salary has only half (or less) the buying power in NYC as it does anywhere else -- it's still an upper income earner.

It means you don't have to live in a hole in the wall, but just barely.

I think defining the "perfect" anything depends on what you want out of life. A social drinker may not be the perfect man for someone who is either strongly against or has other reasons for not allowing alcohol in there family. That's just an example.

Or maybe you already earn $200k and YOU'RE idea of a perfect man is a millionaire. It's all relative.

As stated above, $200k salary in NYC is good money but not like most people think. You almost need to earn that just to get by.

It means he's a well educated man.  The perfect man can't be a plumber, even if he does make the requisite dollars.

What bothers me is it mentions nothing of character or personality.  Only looks, education, and money.

This same perfect guy could be a racist woman beater, but he's still perfect.

Really? Maybe I'm mislead? Or maybe I mis manage money so badly that I think I need to make more than I do?

What's a typical mortgage or rent in NYC now?

Well, maybe that's the idea, that out of all the different ages, races, religions and so forth, these are the things that ring true among most people looking for a mate.

I have 3 out of 6. Brown hair. Athletic build. Don't smoke. Learn to settle. wink

My idea of a "perfect woman" is one who thinks every character on Sex In The City is a vapid piece of human garbage, instead of being someone they "relate" to.

- Not yet in that earnings bracket, but I have plans.
- Easy to steal one off a wall.
- Already have brown hair. Can get contacts and go to the gym.
- I will drink iced-tea socially, and I don't smoke.

Seems attainable.

At one time, I watched every single episode of that show and honestly enjoyed it. Then one day, I woke up and realized, the characters were truly horrible human beings. neutral

What's a typical mortgage or rent in NYC now?

RENT is averaging $3200/month in Manhattan, and there is a 1.8% availability rate in units. Thats the primary rental market with the brokers and shit.

Using the 40x income rule that a lot of landlords have adopted, you would have to be making $128,000/yr before they consider letting you move in.

In the real rental market (with sublets, cold calling, having any social circle at all), $1500 - $2000 /month and deposit will get you a good situation

better deal for mortgage, technically, but you need a huge wad of cash of course...

or you can buy a castle anywhere else. native new yorkers don't know this

I met a dude the other week, who apparently keeps a receipt from the bank in his wallet, in order to show women how well off he is.

He followed it up with, "I have a very nice car also."

I kind of wanted to barf on his shoes.
