I got in touch with this model that has a great look and fits right into the concept I have. She is experienced and I know other togs that have worked with her.
She contacted me back with conditions to shoot:
- $100 for 3 hours
- she gets small res versions of ALL photos
- she gets to approve every edited image before I post it anywhere online

Its that last one that I am not sure about. Is this how more experienced models operate? Have you come across this before and did you go ahead and shoot?

Hell no. Once you pay their rate the images should be yours to do with as you please. What if she doesn't like any of them? You're screwed. Find someone with no demands and no drama. There are plenty of great models out there!

If you pay all rights are yours and unless you agree she has no say about how they are edited or used .

If she's getting paid, that generally precludes any rights to approve the images after the shoot.

The primary exception to that statement would be if the content of the images exceeds the guidelines/boundaries expressed in the shoot, or usage beyond what is agreed, but all those things should be clearly defined in the signed model release.

Small resolution versions of the photos, that does not bother me so much.  "Veto" rights to images that fall within the scope of what is agreed (clothed, implied, lingerie, topless, nude, whatever).

Walk away. I mean, don't even barter or negotiate.

In Charlotte you'll be hard pressed NOT to find awesome TF models with little or no drama about final images.

Pay or not all rights are the photographers.

As for the original question, hell no.  Sorry but there are far too many models available, just click next and make you images.

I would say yes.

If it's a Victoria's Secret model, for instance, and she decided to work with you and wanted to see the final results before you have your way with them then I would say yes to her.

It really is what you both agree to do.

Even if she was paying you $100 for 3 hours, I wouldn't agree to the other two.

Tell her to take a hike.

Sounds like you've already got your answer but let me add another HELL NO.

And yes, the rights are always yours anyway. We try to be nice and not post pics a model hates of herself as a courtesy.

But she sounds like a serious pain in the ass. You're in Charlotte, man! Beautiful girls everywhere.

If it is a Victoria Secret, top model caliber or someone famous that can really help your career then sure. Otherwise probably not.

Generally no, unless you are negotiating with a celebrity model who may have concerns of being portrayed in an unfavorable manner. Even then, she should have reviewed your portfolio of similar concept images before any discussion proceeded and not placed a that limitation upon you as long as you remain within the agreed confines of the concept.

That's what I wrote up above too!

I wouldn't pass up the opportunity of working with someone of that status for such a simple request.  So I guess only you and I will be working with Victoria's Secret gals. borat

I doubt there is many (probably none) major celebrities that will not have limitations placed on a photographer. Even the top famous ones.

She's an experienced hustler, not an experienced model.

You're paying her AND she expects EVERY photo? And she's gets to say which ones are acceptable?

You say she has worked with other shooters. Did you talk to them, or are you taking HER word for everything?

The only way I would work with those parameters is if I was shooting with Gwyneth Paltrow, and then only if she was naked.

This way, if she didn't like any of the pics; well, at least I got to see her naked... smile

Your thoughts should be "Next." There may be a reason why she operates the way she does, and I'm pretty sure the reason ain't gonna be a good one....

First, I would have her define "small res". If I don't like a shot, it doesn't see the light of the Internet in any way shape or form. If we negotiated on that point, she would sign a document stating that she is not to use the small res images in any way, shape or form (and that would include Facebook, etc.) Strictly for preview purposes, only.

As for her approval, she can go pound sand on that one. If that's what she wants, then she needs to be paying YOU.

Someone "in the know", like a Victoria's Secret model, wouldn't work that kind of rate. Even if she did, she wouldn't make bullshit demands about small resolution images and approval.

Seeking an "ok" about final edits is one thing. I do that as a courtesy to make sure a model doesn't hate a final edit. But that's just a courtesy.

I'd do it for $100+ travel, and would appreciate any edits from the shoot, but wouldn't demand....I'm sure you'll find plenty of models in your area who would accept those conditions, heck maybe even for less!!!

I did say caliber. I am pretty sure if a real VS model would work with either of us she will make what I would consider perfectly reasonable demands. I do not think either of those demands as that outrageous.
