Hi Just started exploring portrait retouching, looking for some critical assessment of the results. I use Photoshop CS6 for the skin and detail retouching, and Portrait Professional for minimal face sculpting. As I said, I've only recently started looking into portrait retouching - that's not an excuse, or a request to 'be gentle' with the comments. At the end of the day, I've joined this forum to learn, so happy for any constructive feedback no matter how blunt. Also; I've just used a Datacolor Spyder to calibrate my monitor, so if the tones look weird, let me know. I sourced both of the before images from this forum post: https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=866985 1. 2. 3. image sourced from: https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=820021 Jan 20 13 07:32 am Link Each image seems to have different color issues going in them. The first, for instance, is going a little yellow/green, it might work as a theme in a series, but not on it's own. The two shot has her overdone, and him seemingly not done at all. I think the last one is a little cold. Just my worthless opinion, but I would work on basics before going to plug-ins. They can be useful, from the convenience aspect, but just know what you want them to do. To elaborate on what Motordrive said about #2, her skin looks off to me, but I'm not sure exactly how to describe it other than that her nose doesn't have enough texture. The guy's skin is lacking detail/sharpness that makes it hard to focus on, especially around the forehead. Jan 21 13 12:53 pm Link Absolutely, I agree with your comments on the female's nose in number 2 - thanks for pointing this out, always good to have a fresh pair of eyes to spot something you missed. I had retouched the guy in #2 in the same sort of style as the female, but I thought it made him look extremely effeminate so I re-did him far more subtly - evidently I should also redo the girl. Wasn't expecting there to be so many issues with the colours though; I did 1 and 2 after calibration and 3 before, so was expecting there to be an issue with #3, but not all 3! Not sure how to rectify that to be honest. Thanks for the feedback, appreciate your time and comments. Jan 24 13 11:23 am Link |
