Hair stylists, please, may I ask for help? I did this hairstyle on a recent shoot. The (loose) inspiration was this picture (I realize it is heavily Photoshoped)
I'm glad I managed the soft falling wave around the face (what can I say, I'm grateful for baby steps too ), however, I'm not really happy how shaggy the hair looks. I know I can smooth flyaways at the top of the head with hairspray and smoothing them with my hands, but how can I smooth the waves?
Styling products I used (all from L'Oreal Professionel): Pli + blow dry (for previous look in that photoshoot), Hot Style Constructor (to protect the hair from heat + hold) and Gloss Control (after brusting the waves) and occasionally hair spray (Infinium, force 2).
Maybe I should have used something with stronger anti-frizz? Or maybe wax?

Big sexy hair makes a product called smooth and seal. Works great. It's heat activated. Sometimes I use a bit of hair conditioner or even hand cream palmed really well then apply it to the ends. You can also use a bobby pin raking it through the bottom ends to smooth the hairs into place. Also you may have to reset the hair a second time to give you more control. If you do don't load the hair up with product however. Build the products in. And there is the dryer sheet trick. We use to rub a sheet over the hair in the winter up north to control fly away hair. (love the makeup by the way)! R-

Rick, I adore your neat tricks. Hand cream? Dryer sheet? I'd never think of that. Thanks for all the valuable advice. Will try!

Light cream or gel is great, rubbed onto hands and then smoothed over the wave. I like Paul Mitchell but I'm sure most brands have a light weight cream gel.

Looks like she has fine hair. For big volume waves with control and no frizz or flyaways I set the hair with Bumble and Bumble styling cream. Adds volume and smoothes at the same time. Also doesn't flake at all when brushed out.

I done this look before, blow dry the hair straight, mist the hair lightly with water, mix product in your hand,I like "Garnier Fructis Style Style Sleek & Shine Blow Dry Perfector Straightening Balm" and I tell you why,I'd used all the high end brand from shu uemura to Moroccan oil,but this cheap $4.product,leaves the hair smooth with a hold, love it,DO NOT put to much of the cream, like a nickel for shoulder length & above & a quarter for thick to long hair.I mix a bit of light shine serum into it(like Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Serum) the amount like a dime size. mid shaft to end them run your hands through the top and sides, paddle brush then section and blow dry straight with a medium to large bristle brush. Then take a 1 inch curly iron and curl all the hair up to heir chic bone, pin the curl in place, once you complete curl & pinning spray the hair with a workable spray like Moroccan oil light spray or CHI INFA TEXTURE spray, then remove pins and brush out the curls with bristle paddle push and what La ! this sound like it would take a long time but its 30 mins job if your don't saturated the hair with water,it only needs to slightly damp for the smoothing cream product to bound.
