This Saturday is World Sword Swallower's Day. Blade glommers at Ripley's Museums all over the world will be doing group swallows at 2:23 pm. I did it a few years ago and it's a very cool spectacle!

I don't work for Ripley's and odds are I won't be performing in it so I hope this doesn't sound like advertising. Just wanted to pass it on because I thought event photographers may be especially intrigued, and otherwise it's a fascinating stunt and an opportunity to witness something many people have never seen firsthand.

If you go to Times Square there will probably also be a toddler hamming it up with a foam sword. Hope some of you check it out and enjoy!

Lulz @ a sword swallowing thread in SF2...

And group swallows...yes, that would be a lovely spectacle.

Do they have any sort of swallowing contest?  I'd enter.

Figured there wasn't enough "discussion" element to put it elsewhere.

I know it's not lovely, I've seen it from both sides- But it's definitely interesting.

If you attend the Sideshow Gathering or any place the SSAI sets up shop and show them you can swallow a blade that's at least 15" by 1/2" they'll recognize you as a sword swallower. The other swallowing acts have pretty much gone out of vogue though they may be found every once in a while; The last I heard of one was the Lizardman.

Nah, I get double entendres; I just automatically disarm them after a few years of deepthroat jokes/advice solicitation. I like witty wordplay but on this subject I avoid being a cunning linguist.

I'm holding off until the swallowers return to Capistrano.
