Nikon uses Ashton Kutcher as a spokesperson.

He is taller, richer, a better actor, and more attractive than the average Nikon user.

That totally sucks and makes me feel bad because I am short, poor, untalented and resemble a cartoon character.

My half & half take on it is:

I look good...it is only my reflection in the mirror that does not...LOL!

That's my story and I am sticking with it.

I work in advertising. We want you to believe you will become "taller, richer, a better actor, and more attractive" if you shoot with Nikon. Or, at the least, we want to tickle your id and associate that with our logo.

Andre Agassi was the Canon spokesperson for years, but shooting an EOS didn't make me play tennis any better.

I want my money back.

Nikon hit the nail on the head by using Ashton as it's spokesperson.
While I could give a $hit which celebrity uses what product, the average American get's taken in by this kind of marketing.

I work for one of Nikons competitors and visit many retailers on a regular basis.  I can't believe how many times I've heard customers say "I want the camera that Ashton Kutcher uses".

But...you also didn't leave Demi Moore. He may be taller, richer and more handsome but most Nikon users are SMARTER than Ashton Kutcher.

The campaigns are brilliant, they KNOW who they are selling too.
People who want to party more then take time to use the cameras.

They make the Nikon P&S cameras look so easy to use you can take pictures with a drink in your other hand. That is what a huge market wants to do.

Snap pretty pictures and not worry about technical skills.
Although I'd buy a Nikon P&S just because my main camera is a Canon and I enjoy being contrary.

Depending on which cartoon character and the degree of resemblance, you may be treading on trademark infringement issues. You may want to check with a lawyer before leaving your home.

Ashton Kutcher is actually the perfect choice. He's perceived as humorous and a likeable (likable?) dufus buddy to the male demographic (Punk'd, Dude...) He's not threatening. And besides being the kind of a dunce, notice the hot women who flock to the, , camera when he whips it out?

And he's considered attractive and sexy to the female population. The flawed sex symbol...the best kind lol.

I'm trying to think of a previous star that had that broad appeal. Keanu Reeves maybe at one time because of Bill & Ted? But he just annoyed the hell out of me because I get the feeling his stupidity isn't acting.

Andre Agassi for the old Rebel ads was the same thing. A guy's guy and the women loved him.

Kutcher is a brilliant choice to me.

I think Ashton Kutcher is the face of Nikon because that's what the Japanese consider an attractive man. He's young, not too feminine, and not too masculine, so he really appeals to the chic sub-culture: the ones who will shell out the dough to get into the club.

I shoot Sony, and their spokesperson is either Taylor Swift or Nigel Barker, depending on what part of the commercials you pay attention to.

Either way, I'm screwed.  I'm either a douchebag that needs to be told to button his top button (seriously,  that really irks me - it's not 1976 anymore), or I only date so that I can get my heart broken and co-write songs about it.

Araki uses a Pentax 67.  He says he really likes how loud the shutter is, because it tells everyone around him HEY, I'M A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER, AND I'M TAKING PICTURES RIGHT NOW!!!!!

He's kind of an attention whore wink

It seems like Pentax is still incredibly popular in Japan and Asia.  Hence the Gundam cameras.  Outside of Asia, I think the 645D is the only really popular model with pros.
