Hello! Thank you so much for looking.
I would appreciate it if you could critique my work. I'm hoping you can shed some light on what I did right and the things I need to improve on; that way I can choose the proper material to study and get better. If possible, please share a book, article or video that can help me in the areas I lack. I know that's asking a lot- I will be your best friend though ;-).
I've been practicing retouching for about 1 year now. So far I have read "Photoshop Restoration & Retouching-3rd Edition" by Katrin Eismann and studied "Beauty & Hair Retouching High End Techniques" by Natalia Taffarel.
Areas of weakness that I'm already aware of are compositing, color tones and sharpening. I don't use High Frequency Separation because each time I do, it slows down my computer and sometimes it corrupts my files. I also wonder what retouching would be like with a tablet :-).

I think well done for the most part, it is very much illustration style now.
The eyes seem too dark to me now, the back and white also looks dark.

To say it looks like an illustration is to say that it no longer looks like a photograph but instead, looks more like an artists illustration. If that is the effect that you're going for then yes, that's a good thing; but if that's not the effect you're going for then no, it's not a good thing. That means it looks fake as the retouching is obvious.

Thank you so much for the awesome critique! I wasn't going for an illustration effect so I guess it's a bad thing. A perfect example that I don't know when to stop retouching http://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=884728

Guess I better study "adding texture" as well. For the blue eye shadow, I just created a layer, then painted blue and then reduced the opacity. Then on another layer, I healed the two (dark blue and blue) colors together. I have the slightest clue how to add texture on top of that.
