how often worried about safety on a shoot?
ontherocks wrote: That's how my worst-ever encounter at the rural park started out. Mar 25 13 09:14 am Link Only one time shooting in Florida outdoors in a park. There was an overflow drain the model was standing on the end of it, water behind her for a nice shot. You could hear a gator croaking really close by. She was wearing heels on a steel grading and couldn't run if she wanted too! As I was shooting I saw a 10 foot gator swim behind her. Made me pretty nervous! So we got the shot and I never went back there again. Mar 25 13 09:26 am Link ontherocks wrote: I have no idea of how many commercial photography shoots I have conducted in the last 60 years.. We were not in a good area, and the photographer gets an odd vibe, and goes between me and the two cars. Five menacing looking thug like guys get out and walk toward us. Mar 25 13 09:31 am Link By checking references, paying attention to the language use/professionalism of the photographer in pre-shoot messages, and letting someone know where I am when shooting I generally feel safe at shoots. Unfortunately there are a few yucky people out there who are able to fall through the cracks. That said, I have only had one truly awful experience where I was definitely in an unsafe situation. Mar 26 13 09:46 am Link I don't think I can recall a time I ever felt "unsafe" during a shoot. I've felt nervous and awkward, but nothing beyond that really. If anything, it's always everyone else (as in my friends in family) that fear for my safety, because the internet is a place and all. Mar 26 13 11:00 am Link I have never been worried about my safety with a model, but I have been worried about my health! I suffer from debilitating migraines, and I tell ALL models "Do not wear any perfumes or wash up in the morning with smelly soaps"! Last year, one new model came over my studio reeking of perfume, and when she walked by me I thought to myself "Son of a bitch, this is not good"! Sure enough, 10 minutes into our session the migraine aura started, I sent her home immediately, and I came down with a migraine that robbed me of 2 days out of my life! Mar 26 13 11:25 am Link i get lightheaded and feel like i'm going to pass out. the wife reacts really badly to cologne. we're appreciative of models who keep the level of fragrances under control. MainePaintah wrote: Mar 27 13 11:03 am Link I only worry about falls. We sometimes go deep in the jungle and access areas which can be very dangerous. Most every model and guest has fallen, tripped, slipped and or tumbled. That's to include me. Every model who has worked with me is astounded by what we do. The most common phrase out of their mouths..."OMG, this is harder than I thought it was going to be. The pictures made it look so much easier". Never here... that worryin shit just gives you grey hair, zits, strokes and heart attacks. Preparation is the key to success. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure... Mar 29 13 07:50 pm Link I shoot in thunderstorms on a pier alot.....close calls...yeah, a few. You learn that when the hair on your arms stands up...lay down. Mar 29 13 09:59 pm Link I am frequently concerned for the safety of myself or other models, as I am often eating fire, performing some sort of piercing related shenanigans, or naked in/on/around condemned buildings, or naked in the woods with no/improper footwear. I have yet to be concerned about a photographer selling me into white slavery. Mar 30 13 08:32 pm Link Heather LeStabbityDeath wrote: o.O Mar 30 13 08:41 pm Link Like a lot of the other photogs here, I'm always fearful of my models getting hurt. Like some of them have said, some models are regular TomBoys and won't hesitate to climb all over and up on things to get a good shot in. I was working with a model once who wanted to climb out onto an 8"~10" wide steel "I" beam, lay down on her back so it would look like she was floating in mid air. Trouble was, the "I" beam was 35'~40' above a solid concrete floor. If she had ever slipped or lost her footing and fell. Well, you do the math from there. The scariest incident I've had so far was working with a model in an abandonded building and she almost fell backwards over the railing of some stairs. Luckily she caught herself in time, otherwise if she went over the railing she would have gone head first straight down and probably would landed on an old cast iron radiator, 10~12 feet below her. Scared the sh%t out of me. I was physically shaking some for 15~20 minutes afterwards. MG. Mar 30 13 09:18 pm Link I got chased by some really pissed off monks in Bangkok once. And had some pretty mean looks from a few "locals" in Amsterdam's Red Light District. But haven't had anything on a shoot with a model, so far. Mar 31 13 07:58 am Link pissed off monks? that sounds like the start of a good story. JOEL McDONALD wrote: Mar 31 13 09:02 am Link ontherocks wrote: Good name for an Indie Alt Band too. I always do worry about the model's safety though. If she needs to have an escort or wahtever it takes to ease her concerns on a first shoot. But for injury safety.. umm always concerned big time! One lady almsot fell off a huge boulder n got my heart racing but lucky she caught her balance quick enough.. another slidl down a small stair case but didn't get hurt.. only a few steps. In any case it is a concern and we should all make it a point to watch eachother's back. Apr 01 13 03:15 pm Link I never worry. Apr 01 13 03:20 pm Link |
