The Troggs version of "Wild Thing" was a cover.  The song had first been recorded by a band called The Wild Ones.  Later of course, it was covered by such luminaries as Jimi Hendrix and The Muppets.

Can't forget Motorhead's version

Rammstein's cover of Depeche Mode.
Trent Reznor's cover or Led Zeppelin's Immigrant song

Those were fucking awesome.

Please, watch your language. There are ladies here who do not need to be exposed to such uncouth phrases.

This was voted the best cover of all time by the Rolling Stone.

All Along the Watchtower. And I wholeheartedly agree. smile

Just about any cover of All Along the Watchtower beats the original. I've seen high school bands kick Dylan's ass on that song.

My name is not Phil.

I am not a jester, that is another job entirely.

I like what David Lee Roth did with California Girls and Just a Gigalo as well. Much the same treatment as You Really Got Me.

Yep, gotta agree, Jimi Hendrix's version of "All along the Watchtower" is probably one of the best covers.

More recently The Weeknds version of "Happy House" by Siouxie and the Banshees is way at the top, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ex38L8xtNI

Speaking of Siouxie and the Banshees, their version of the Beatles' "Helter Skelter" is pretty great:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-uKjLEk17M
