The whole idea that, for my whole adult life, I've actually only a size 5 foot seems shocking. I always thought I had big feet. I mean, I guess I actually do, just big wide - not big long.

I also have really high arches, so he was like, "Your feet are ... special..."

Like short-bus kind of special.

I'm a size seven, size five does seem teenytiny! My feet are weird in the fact that they're super wrinkly. So are the palms of my hands. I'm going to have amazing elephant skin when I'm all old and soft

Some people have a lot of creases on the bottoms of their feet; I've noticed that. I wish the skin on my face was as tight as the skin on my feet.

Yeah, but the width is a D measurement. The shoe person said that is completely outsized for a female foot. It kind of requires a specialty shoe, if I actually want the shoes to *really* fit.

So, while your foot might be long, it's probably only an A or B width. A-B width is average for women, with C being really wide, and D-width being the foot equivalent of having natural DDD-cup boobies.

I got the foot version of epic tits.

OMG. They had ONE pair (of hiking boots, not even "normal" shoes), ONE pair, in that whole store that was the actual size I'm supposed to be wearing. It was like... walking on a cloud. It was fucking amazing. I have NEVER felt, up until that point, what it felt like to have my feet in the correct size shoe. It was a totally different shoe experience.

That's all fine and good, except I can't actually afford to buy any shoes in my size --- like ever.  Most manufacturers don't even make shoes with that kind of width, unless you order them.

The fact is, I'm going to continue wearing my sneakers 2.5 sizes too long, just as I always have. Maybe, some day, I can actually afford to buy shoes that fit, now that I know what I've hated shoes my entire life.

I went to the climbing gym a couple weeks back, and just climbed barefoot. I always just thought wearing shoes was awful, but it's because I've always worn a totally wrong size show and didn't know it.

No. Try wearing a size 11. That's a big foot right there. Shoes, for me, are a NIGHTMARE. And to think that my mom had to take me the long way around the store to avoid the shoe section when I was a toddler, because I loved shoes so much (I had an insane obsession with mary janes and had them in every color, and frequently paired them with my bright red tights, which I wore. Constantly. CONSTANTLY) as a toddler.

Now I avoid the she section because it's just depressing (so many shoes, so little that comes in my size!). And of course my feet are stupid shaped, long and thin with a narrowed heel).

Pffff 11s are small too.

They're made for big dude legs, so while of course the foot part is far too long, at least they're wide and they don't feel like I'm wearing a tourniquet on my calves.

I wear the Brooks Adrenaline. I like them enough I have two pairs - one in blue one in black.

I KILL sneakers. I mean, KILL them. I can buy a brand new pair, and they're shot in three months. I don't think I have a budget for shoes that actually fit my feet. I will need a new pair of $200 shoes every few months.

I kill shoes too. I remember my first and only pair of nikes. They were completely dead within two months, even after duct tape. For a long time I largely got all of my shoes either from payless or from thrift stores, because I couldn't justify the money. Sneakers were usually payless, while heels were usually thrift store purchases.
I've had the blue ones about a year, and outside of a mud stain on the mesh part of the right one, so far there are no signs of wear and tear. And I'm amazed at how different my knees and back feel wearing proper fitting shoes - especially since I bought them around the time I was recovering from some pretty ugly injuries to my spine and knees, wearing crappy shoes and heels all the time was no longer an option. After like 10 months and they were still almost good as new, I saw the black ones on sale, and felt totally justified in buying them too.

Do some research on brands, styles, support types, and how they hold up, see a foot specialist at a shoe store, experiment. You might be able to find the right shoe for your feet to hold up to both your foot shape and your activity levels.

I am size 14 wide- try that out in any shoe store. The internet doesn't help.

Wallmart has 14 wide- but everyone wants them to be shut down for too many reasons that have nothing to do with the fact that they have have a shoe I can wear.

Thanks for the link. I will probably go shopping at some point, and just buy a couple of pairs. Really, the width is the thing that will make it hard to find them. The numerical length ("5") isn't that hard to find. It's the width. I did find some C-width shoes on there, which are too narrow, but I'm sure there are some D-width ones also, if I continue to look. I can probably go back over the site here in a couple weeks when/if I have some extra money to spend.

The internet is a god send for hard to find sizes. I've started getting my kid's shoes on the net because most stores don't tend to carry much in size 13. It's nice to have more then one pair to choose from
