For a Photograph to be great, it has to be great photography. A model can be Beautiful, but that doesn't make it a great photograph. That makes it a Beautiful Photograph.

What makes a baby.....the mother or the father? A photographer can always photograph statues. A model can always forgo cameras and do runway. But debating which of two persons contributes more to a picture it took two to create.....is dumb.

A good MUA can make an average model and photographer look like a genius

A photographer can have a lot of talent and take photos of excellent quality, but when the subject/model looks uninterested, boring, etc, then it kinda takes away from the overall photo. If the model is talented, knows how to pose, etc, but the photo seems like just a snapshot, then that takes away from the overall image trying to be portrayed too. Not sure if I explained what I wanted to explain correctly, but yeah. I may have the knowledge and experience, but without the right model, it's just a picture. That's why I say "I'm only as good as the models I work with".

Subjects are not photographers, and rarely self-direct, unless the photographer does not know what he's doing. Runway is rarely the other option, even for models that qualify for it. It is high profile, and seems to be sporadic, which is why most enthusiasts want to do it (i.e., They think they model rarely, yet can still call themselves "models"), but even models that do it almost exclusively cannot afford to skip print modeling altogether.

Both, for sure. Every photo shoot, ideally, should be a collaboration between artists.

I've seen really beautiful photos of really bad models. I've seen really ugly photos of really great models.

I'm not too pleased with how my latest photos came out I'll be honest and say that I didn't do my best, but I feel like I was disconnected with the photographer or something, and wasn't a big help but I'm not going to point fingers.. so in your opinion who or what makes the photo? *my apologies for the misspelling in the title* I know it is not a popular opinion, but I believe it is the photographer. Reason? A great photographer (and I am NOT claiming I am one) can take a picture of anything and make a great photo. Amazing photos have been taken of street people, migrant farmers, etc. People who define "not a model". Yet the photos still had that special something that made them exceptional. No professional model needed. And while it is possible for a model to take an amazing picture of themselves, in general they need someone else on the camera. That said, a good model will elevate the work she helps create. A great model will do even more. And let's not forget the rest of the team: assistants, hair, makeup, special effects, post-production, etc. They are extremely important to some photos too. Sometimes as much so as the photographer or the model!!! My two cents, YMMV Daeda1us
