Hello everyone,

I just signed up as a model here on MM. I am available to shoot nudes and implied. I do not have much for now in my portfolio, but judging by my actual photos, is modeling something I should pursue? Note that I also am a photographer and just love to create pictures.

Thanks!

What kind of modeling specifically?

You really have to pay good photographers and gain more experience,
I can't really judge on what you have up now as they do not really show your potential.

I sure can't do runway and editorials, but I am a big fan of "fashion nudes" or whatever it's usually called, and artistic nudes. I'm a bit clueless about what my measurements could get me into though.

if you are already a 'photographer' why don't you have better and more pictures of yourself - self-taken - including nudes?

It's on it's way. The "photographer" is busy taking pictures of other models.

You have potential to do modeling work. Most likely not be agency represented (because of your height/weight/age) but you have a good look to do lots of TFP work and maybe smaller local paid jobs.

That's the only qualification you need. I don't even need to look at your portfolio. If you're willing to shoot nude, you can get work, regardless of age, measurements, height or weight.

I have to admit, I always find the question, "Can I be a model?" odd. Anyone who poses for a photo can call themselves a model. No different than anyone who takes a photo IS a photographer. Now, if it was qualified: "Can I be a Fashion Model?" "Can I make money modeling?" it would be easier to answer.

I am not looking to be represented by an agency, if anything I'll be freelance.
Thanks for your input Meghan!

You are absolutely right, I should have made this question a bit more to the point. I'm more eager to know if I could have any chances of getting hired for modeling. I sure know I can't do fashion. And as you said, since I'm willing to shoot nudes, I guess I have my answer big_smile

Gabrielle,

Be careful. Yes, men will want to take nude (naked) photos of you. No surprise there. Practice caution whenever working with photographers on this site, regardless of their portfolio, credentials, and testimonials - all of which can be built up over time for the sake of deception. My models fill me in on the dirt. There is a guy, for instance, that demands his models post favorable tags on his page in exchange for his services. And guess what? Correct! A dirtbag creep.

Bring someone with you. If the photographer forbids escorts, don't work with them. Period.

That said, it can be a lot of fun if you build professional relationships and friendships. You're beautiful. Good luck.

Anyone that has motivation to get better has potential to do modeling. big_smile Once you give into being negative your modeling will go downhill but right now it's good.

You're very attractive. If you have determination and desire, you'll be able to be successful doing local photo shoots.
I totally agree with sasweets.
I think Adam MacHose is way over negative. I think that if you use the same
care in MM that you need in the world in general, you'll be fine. Try to find a local
photographer who can help you in return for helping him/her. You'll both benefit.
Yes, you'll get more offers as your portfolio improves, but your present portfolio shows your potential. I'd shoot with you any time.
To eliminate photographers because they don't allow escorts is probably excessive. Expereienced models almost never have escorts.  Experienced photographers usually don't like escorts, because there's so many ways they can be a negative influence on a good shoot. Just this week, I had one model cancel because her escort decided he had an errand to run, and another who cancelled because her escort didn't have gas money (I offered transportation/gas money).
Ask for credits and/or contact models in the photographers portfolio about their experience with the photographer. Look at the photographer's 'credited photos' section. Talk to those models. The photographer didn't decide whether to show those photos, the models did.

Good luck....

you are good looking and you do nude so it will be easy for you to get some paid gigs, but practice more on your expression and eye contact.

Good luck.

I think the op should stick to fine art nude modeling. This genre is well suited to her and she maybe able to make a dent in the market.

However you may only to be able to make money from hobbiests and GWCs. Top notch fine art photographers don't usually pay models.

You have potential. Just takes time. You have better than most models starting out. Just really focus on posing and learning your light and make sure to stay in shape and keep that shape. I dont mean ripped but just do not be going up and down and so on that you ruin your body or you mis rep yourself between one shoot and another.

^^^This. Been saying this to everyone. People think you have to look like an Abercrombie and Fitch model to be considered a model. That is dead wrong.

If I want to shoot something dark, gritty, and rouch looking, I want a model to match. If I want to shoot a flawless glamour shot, then I want the model to match.

This is about you, and enjoying modeling. Id use you for a number of things.

I disagree with this whole damn post. Yes, creepers exist, and they prey upon sites like MM. Yet there are wacky people EVERYWHERE in all aspects of life. Base your life around all possible harm is no way to live.

If you look at news and statisitcs, models aren't huge victims of sexual assault. Most sexual assault occurs with friends and family and less than a mile from home. The only case I've heard of was a model who had become close friends with a photographer after many shoots, got assaulted durning a nude shoot, and she got him to stop.

Creepers and GWC's  are weird and creepy individuals, who get their jolly's by stalking and peeping. Most of the time they just scare and annoy models.

To say to deny any photographer that won't allow llama herders is an ignorant statement. llama herders can get overprotective, in the way, demanding, distracting, or think they know more than you and try to "help." The biggest creeper I'd ever had was an llama herder a model brought to her shoot. She was embarrassed by his behavior.

Sorry for the shotgun blast. End rant....

Bonjour Gabrielle,

I have to agree with others, don't fall in for that escort thing (again the escort thing???). You would cut yourself from working with many of the best photographers in your area, who have other things to do than deal with immaturity and lack of confidence...

If there is one area I believe you should work, it's facial expression. I do not see much difference between your pictures, you should try to be seductive when required, or surprised, or like having a good laugh... or crying. So far, you are very neutral, nothing happens.

Stretch those muscles of your face, listen to the last François Perusse album in front of your mirror, and watch yourself laugh to tears. Then try the same thing with anger, lust, sadness... Then find a good Montreal based photographer who will help you with posing.

With your looks, if you can put these together, I believe you could achieve some success. The rest is how you are good at marketing yourself.

Oh, and remember, keep having fun at this. It will show up, and photographers will be the happier smile

You know it's a good thing to remind new models to keep safe, but I do agree that this kind of post could scare the shit out of some people wanting to get into modeling. No llama herder? Check your references, and you'll be good to go.

I do bring someone with me at many shoots (including nudes) but always ask the photographer first if everythings alright that way. I wouldn't mind going alone though. I honestly only do this to make the travelling part to the shoot easier and less stressful, since I am with someone I know. Of course i will feel more secure also. But hey, let's not get into an escort debate, shall we? big_smile

And thanks for the input, I really need to study expressions and play with my face more.

In his defense, there are a lot of the creepers on here and if you're new, it's easy to miss the red flags.  I was that naive kid in college who got talked into a few shoots I definitely regret -- where the GWCs in question thought they had a right to try to touch and the most my scared-ass knew to do was choke a "no, bye." before grabbing my clothes and fleeing.

I'm not new anymore.  I like to think I know well enough to avoid the creepers and that if I did happen to end up dealing with one again, I'd be a little better-equipped to handle the situation.  Much as I facepalm over every "Is this a scam?" thread, there are girls here who have never encountered the situations MM presents and don't know which ones are legitimately new photographers trying to get better at photography and which ones are GWCs trying to get off on taking pics 'cause they don't feel like driving all the way to a strip club.

I'm getting long-winded and preachy (sorry) -- all I meant to say is that I dealt with more inappropriate BS from creepers on this site when I was new than I've ever gotten from friends and family less than a mile from home.

(That said, I don't shoot with models who require escorts.  Ain't nobody got time for that.)

(And now I'm off to see whether I can find that Oklahoma GWC who was the worst offender; I now know I wasn't the only one he pulled that nonsense with and I'm wondering whether it's too late to CAM him.)

I encourage you to do what you enjoy, and not give up. Some models are biz savvy, determined and work the internet. Really, no matter how they may look, they get a stream of paying gigs.

You do really need more photos, and some very good ones. Put out a casting call to photographers in your area for a two part shoot - nude and full wardrobe. You will get a lot of responses (so many photos like to shoot nudes.) This approach will give you both nudes and non-nudes.

While your at it, get a MUA TFP.

Good Luck,

You have a pursuable future in modeling and you can definitely make some money modeling nude. You could stand to work on your posing and facial expression. Just keep on mind that when you start out doing nudes the photographers that are going to be willing to pay you
are going to do so basically cause they want to see you nude:-) Better photographers are not going to want to pay you if their port is better than yours.

And don't forget about artists.

Most artists and sculptors pay models. Sometimes it is not as much as photographers pay (especially if the artist works from life and not photographs), but it can be steady work if the project is big.

Some artists, (myself included) work from life and photographs, so we pay MM "rates" because we need good professional models.

I think you will do well as an art nude. I think you have a body made for sculpture! (in my humble opinion)! smile
