I have to get ready for a shoot, but will be back....Denise is next smile

A classic, and just as the title states......if I personally would work with you or not. Depending on what jumps out at me as I peruse your profile, I'll probably also give a bit of the reasoning of why or why not.

As always, no butthurt allowed.

Hello Dwight!

I'm on the fence about you, as your port is inconsistent/could use some tighter editing, and I'm not sure which side of the fence I would get.

On one hand, you have clean, crisp, pretty stuff like this:

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130503/04/5183996807dac_m.jpg

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130622/14/51c612408b8d8_m.jpg

On the other hand, there's stuff in there that is a bit too heavily processed or just isn't fully realized as a concept:

This unnatural processing in background tanks an otherwise viable fitness image(I though it was dropped in/green screened until I opened it in the large):

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130303/15/5133dc69eac4c_m.jpg

This model is gorgeous. but the skin is too smoothed/oddly highlighted and the styling is confusing:

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130111/12/50f07ac8ddb4a_m.jpg

Final verdict?

I'd take a chance on you if you had an awesome team or an amazing location or something to firmly nudge you over onto the probable good side of the fence I'm currently sitting on smile

I know I like you based on our previous interactions. You'd be a fun shoot smile

I totally get wanting to pull out all the stops after years of the clean eye required for a good photojournalist, but I love your work best when you keep it on the simpler side of the styling spectrum, as sometimes the feathers and the heavy paint and the shiny wardrobe are a bit too much at once. Much like a take out menu, pick one from column A and one from Column B

In any case, I'd happily work with you on stuff like any of this Just don't forget the popcorn you promised me a while back. I love popcorn.:

I still like your style and think you do great work, but I still don't shoot the required level of skin, aside from the occasional fashion sheer or more tame side of lingerie, and that probably still is pretty useless for your purposes, as you tend to walk the fashion/glam line.

So we'd probably be at a bit of a roadblock

Not quite yet. You're in great shape, have a pretty face and an appealing smile, but you are kind of new still and you don't know your angles and what works for you quite perfectly yet.

However, with some more experience and a more developed portfolio, you could easily become a "yes".

I like the way you use color, and you've got stuff that shows potential for a pretty sort of clean simplicity, but I don't feel you are there consistently yet, so I'd probably pass for now.

These aren't working for me:

A pretty shot marred by odd light/post:

Not terrible, but too snapshot like for a portfolio:

You've got a clean pretty style that I'm sure would play well in the commercial realm, if you edited your book a bit. There are multiple cases where you have two images from the same shoot, with only one really being striking enough to benefit you.

(For example, the second shot in your book is a much better choice than your current avatar.)

However, you are extremely consistent lighting and quality wise.

A yes if I needed a good simple commercial headshot.

There's actually a pretty decent softer side of glam port buried amongst the bloat. A portfolio cull would do you good.

This stuff's lovely:

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/32476058

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130630/18/51d0e2434c834_m.jpg

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130416/19/516e08ab4d415_m.jpg

But then I see this:

This isn't flattering to the model, and the toilet shot is a cliche:

https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/24816080

Too much post, and the skin just looks odd, and the MUA over contoured her face:

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/130109/18/50ee28ded3094_m.jpg

The stray hairs and the lighting both could have easily been corrected:

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/120628/19/4fed0d2ef1bd8_m.jpg

Given that I don't have a strong look for glam and the portfolio reads inconsistent, I'd probably pass on you for now.

With a stronger edit, and a bit more of an even pace, I'd be more inclined to say yes in the future, and meet you in the middle of our styles.

Well if we're playing in the hypothetical realm where my no nudes policy isn't an issue....I like what you do and some of the processes (or at least the ones we've discussed) that lead you to do it.

Is it something I can necessarily use? Not really, as art modeling isn't my big niche.

But since we're playing in the realm of opposite day possibility, sure if I had an extra day to play and there was some concept of yours that I would fit smile

I like your ideas, and your obvious enthusiasm for what you're doing....but as I mentioned to Camerosity, I think you tend to gild the lily a touch more than you really need to sometimes. Filters and shiny wardrobe and heavy editorial paint can be a touch too much at once.

However, you capture motion well, and you get a nice range out of your models, so I assume you keep a good, upbeat environment on set, as they all look at ease.

The simpler stuff in your port is pretty sweet. Trust your eye and your skills a bit more:

https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/080901/04/48bbadb7d5df9_m.jpg

I'd love to see these minus the extra bells and whistles(from the looks of it...both post processing and a love of Lensbaby fun), as the base ideas/executions are there:

Damn! The last version of your port I saw was just about a perfect balance.....now there's some new stuff in your top row that isn't selling you or your (very pretty) look very well at all. Add carefully...not everything you shoot has to make it into your port.

Make up artist me would probably still use you, as I've seen enough of your work/look over time to know you've got some kick ass skills in you.....however, most people won't necessarily have that much context or history when they look at your book, and the new stuff is weighing it down rather than selling you well.

Not right now. You've got a sweet, fresh faced look, pretty hair and great movement because of your dance skills, but I feel you've got some practice to go yet before you learn how to best utilize your good traits on camera.

Keep shooting, get some more polished work in there, and this could easily change to a yes in the future smile
