First I have to say wow...Christie Brinkley looks really great.  I hope I can look that good when I am 59.

I am the same age as the model for which this thread is about. I can say sometimes I feel that I am at the in-between age for commercial modeling/acting parts.  A bit too old to portray a mother of a young child, but a bit too young to represent a grandmother or be in an AARP ad.

In my opinion the model doesn't look younger than her age. Although she is in good shape, I would guess that she is in her 50s which is at the in between age that I mentioned.

... and as for the original post, no one is faulting her for BEING 49, but yes, she looks it.

Some people just naturally look younger. It's genetics mostly.

"hey grandma"

I read the article, and therein lies her issue. She isn't bragging on how wonderful she is. It's that she doesn't look like the archetypal or stereotypical grandmother who would be casted for an Allstate commercial. So, she isn't going to get work for those kinds of shoots.

And, she knows she looks too old for the work she did previously. Now what does she do?

I don't understand the level of snarking on her appearance in this thread given the model's frank assessment of her professional predicament. The underlying issue, which is an interesting subject for discussion, revolves around preconceived notions of what a person in a certain societal role ought to look like.

Wait a second.
There is not snark here.  It's truth. Yes, she does look her age.

Next...

So she's not going to do fashion and is clearly in a flux trying to figure out her target market.  She's not going to be doing what she did before.  If you look young, you can do different genres but lingerie modeling? Errr unless it's a line for more mature women.

I think it's a 'oh you're too young' thing because the MODEL is wanting a specific target market for herself.  If she is trying to get represented, what agencies is she really going to?

The article doesn't tell you that.

You decide!

Is that a joke? I was expecting to see a young-looking model with flawless, porcelain skin. Not a 40 year old looking woman (OK, 50 looking) who looks like she's spent too long in the sun.

I literally scrolled down the page to see if there was a different model in question.

I didn't read the article but if she thinks she's not getting jobs because she looks too young, I'd have to say she's severely delusional. The only thing she might be too young for is the Early Bird Discount at Applebee's...maybe.

Crappy article though it is, I think you guys are being a little harsh on her. She doesn't seem to say she looks too young, only that's what she has been told. She also says she's too old for a lot of stuff.

It's more about her not fitting in to the "look" that is being sought for an older women in the markets she wants to work in.

Essentially it's just another "why won't the world revolve around me" whine.

You can have all the plastic surgery in the world, take care of your skin until the cows come home, but the hands always give it away.
I find the same thing here in Korea where Asians tends to age differently that North America. A lot of women well into their 40s will have amazing bodies, really good skin, and still look pretty young (early-mid 30s by western standards, easily 10-15+ years off), but it's the hands that will give it away.

Saying she's "too old", would get them sued, but saying she's "too young" won't.  I think it's just a nice way to say, "It's time for you to retire from underwear modeling".

This was my first thought too.

Yep.
Know a woman in her late 40's, looks like she is in her late 20's.
But, the hands show her age.

A bit confused by the whole, "don't look old enough to be a grandma" thing.

I know more than a few grandmas who are in their 30s and look awesome.
Yes, bad choices led to early pregnancies and the daughter followed in mom's footsteps a bit.  Voila!  30 year old grandma.

The world, she is a changin'.

True, I just think Christie Brinkley looks better than most 20 year olds imho.

This is the point. At 49, she is too old to be considered sexually attractive/beautiful but too young to be a sexless grandmother. Actresses over 40 are always saying the roles dry up. They are relegated to ingenue, mother, or grandmother.

As a side note, the pics in the article show me a model who looks pretty stiff and lifeless, so maybe she isn't getting the gigs for reasons other than her age....

Subject of OP looks much older than most of the 49-year-olds I know. I'm not talking about movie stars with personal trainers and masseurs and plastic surgeons either - just regular people.

If that's her actual body, I applaud her. And she has nice hair. But her face is a hard 49. I would have guessed she was a well-preserved 60. Wear sunblock every day of the year, kids, you'll be glad someday.

So 49 is "too old to be considered sexually attractive and beautiful"?  As a 49 year old I find that remark rather insulting.  I think these mature ladies do too.

These beautiful ladies are 50 or very close to it.

I know to someone that is 24 that 49 seems old...but that does  not mean that someone that age cannot be beautiful or attractive.
