I emailed my information back(as it's not like they were asking for bank information. A simple address can't do anything), as well as saying :

"This sounds a little too god to be true, but I'll give it a shot!
But you haven't specified exactly where the location is, around me?
So as stated in your email, the invitation will be sent to me via mail?
Will I have a model contract to sign when I arrive?"

~~~~~~~~
And then I received the reply :
"Hello Victoria,
Thank you for getting back to us, your informations were received, documented and presented to the company financial manager so as to process your payment soon. The company decided to pair you up with the rest of the team, Make-Up Artist, Hairstylist, Wardrobe Stylist, they're busy traveling around the States doing Make-Up for some top models as regards to their portfolio, they work on contract basis for us.
You'll be contacted as soon as everything has been arranged on when and how you'd meet other models before the shoot. I will e-mail you soon as payment has been mailed out to you on or before (29th Aug). Shooting date will be on the (6th or 7th September 2014 in Palm Bay at 3pm). Hope any of the dates is Ok for you? Pls let me know asap.
Also, the Make Up Artist will let you know more as soon as the funds has been received and other important information would be made known to you as well. OK? so keep very close to your Email box so as to get our e-mails and have it replied immediately.
Thank you,
Durwin"
I was also skeptical because I live in a small town, and there's no way they'd do a fashion shoot here.
Also, why would the directly contact the models on sites like these, when they could be going through agents?
And now,  I'm receiving messages on both here & OMP these "paid fashion shoots".
If these are scams, I'm really tired of them and I take my career/dream seriously, and it's an INSULT when all these people waste your time and get your hopes up!
Yes, Hello magazine is a well-documented scam.
No legit business will ever ask you to take partial payment from a check/money order/draft/etc and then forward the rest to someone else.
yup.  Pretty obvious. What is sad is...if I am correct in this assumption...TOO MANY PEOPLE KEEP FALLING FOR IT.  Otherwise the scam would fail and there would no point to doing it and it would stop.
sigh...
Just had almost the exact same thing happen.. It sucks when you're trying to build your name and are given false hope.
Let's see...
...  They send you a big check, but
...  You have to pay someone else (e.g. a wardrobe stylist), and
...  In the end, their check bounces & yours doesn't.
...  Please to ignore bad speling und grandma.
For $50, I'll explain how this scam works.  Wait!  Oh, darn.  smile
Okay -- if someone hires you, they & not you should be paying the rest of the team.
Not all paid offers are scams, but all offers requiring you to pay anyone else are probably scams.
For the future, consider that you're only 5'3", have large tattoos, and your face is pierced. You're chances of paid work where you keep your clothes on, especially fashion, are extremely slim. Chances of a legit publication contacting YOU are even more slim. You work with a photographer, THEY contact the magazine to submit the images, they do or dont get selected.
If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Being realistic helps you weed out the scammers, they prey on the dreamers and the ones who dont know any better.
What you quote is, as other have noted, certainly a scam.
If someone offers you, say, $50 -$200 for lingerie / art nudes, it MIGHT not be.
The "advanced fee" scam is a popular Nigerian scam!
By the time that the check bounces, you have already forwarded the "difference" (from YOUR account) to the scam artists.
Moderator Note!
I'm glad you got the answers you were looking for!
Just a note:
If you're ever getting weird messages and *poof* the profile disappears, but they are still emailing you, 99 times out of 100, it means we've found out they are scamming people and removed their profile. This is a very big red flag!
If you ever get a message you are pretty sure is a scam on MM, please report the message to us by "Flagging" the PM. smile
MOD hat off:
I've been modeling for a long time and have been making a living for years now. STILL, I get scam messages. If I'm bored enough, I'll annoy them and waste their time writing messages back and forth.
Just remember that being an almost-victim of a scam never means anything about your potential or whether you'll be successful and book paid work.
I used to think, "Of COURSE it's a scam... No one would want to pay ME to model." It would depress me. Just remember, they cast out a wide net, and they aren't picky about who goes into it.
Be smart, be patient and don't fall for the scams out of hope.
This is an important point.  Getting scam offers says NOTHING about your potential.  It doesn't mean you are, OR ARE NOT, qualified for legit work.  The scammers don't have the knowledge, and don't take the time, to make that distinction.
Several well known members make it hard for new models.   They post they know models here who make 10k or more a month who don't do nudes are are 5'4" yet never say who these models are or show any photos.   They tell us about how they make $250.00 an hour to walk around with people while photographers take snapshots of them or how they have made thousands a month despite being tiny.   They never prove they have and who can verify they can.   So models like the OP see this nonsense and think that they can too and some fall for cons like the OP received.   I know of two models who did.
Its important to know the standards.   Even freelance models should.   I'm not so sure that its very easy for non nude petite models to make much money.   Look at the forums though and contact those who claim they do and ask them for their advice.   Here's a good on-line resource:    http://www.newmodels.com/
