I see what you did there... smile

When this is possible in real-time gaming is going to look absolutely incredible. I've noticed eyes have been a giveaway for a long time but it looks like artists are getting much closer.

I suspect chicanery, but it could be 'real' unreality.

You could duplicate a lot of that video with a green screen and a green shirt and overlay some digi-gak over top.

If it's 'real' unreality, it is spectacular.

It's what it says it is, but I'm sure it's closely studied and imitated from a video performance of the live guy.

Lots of attention to detail.

Look at the eye from the same guy--

I have to say it's uncanny how uncanny it looks.

Yeah, though I walk through the valley of shadow of dolls....

He created 'Ed' smile

Wow kinda makes you think that not too far in the future there may not be a need for models, actors or photographers. Just computers and computer artists, writers and programers.

Hhhmmm

Maybe, but consider that

- people still find value in shooting film and printing wet, even though digital can emulate the product pretty effectively
- people still carve stone and work wood, even though plastic can emulate the product pretty effectively
- people still cook from scratch, even though flash frozen foods and microwaves can emulate the product pretty effectively
- people still attend stage productions, even though movies can emulate the product pretty effectively
- etc., etc., etc.

There is more than just nostalgia behind the idea that "the real thing" has value.  While imitation/emulation may take a large share of the commercial market, I don't think that universal truth will ever change.

I got some email from a software company where their software will do makeup for the cast through an entire video.  No need for a MUAH person.  Pick a cast member, assign their look, and let the software do the work.

Stuff is moving along and it does make one wonder what will become of current talent if digital can replace most everything.  Digital band will be next, if not already done.

Like most things..  People have to be aware of what's developing, educate themselves and adjust their skill sets if they want to stay in the game.
