Bought a canon 20d from ebay some months ago(body only) And recently purchased a ef 50mm 1.8 lens.after trying to combine camera to lens camera starts showing err 01.took it to a local repairer, who told me the only thing he could do was to make the camera work with the lens only when the lens is set to manual focus, which I accepted.only to discover I cannot control the aperture o the lens after the repair.would love to know I any o you here has ever repaired his or her camera his/herself,whats the name o the mechanism responsible for establishing  contact between lens and camera ,so that I can purchase it and repair camera myself and also links that could educate one on how to go about repairing his camera

The error is usually (not always) a communication issue between the lens and the camera body, often a dirty contact problem.

First step is to isolate the problem - test the lens on another camera - test the body with a different lens.
Test the body with a different good battery or external power adapter - check that the power contacts are clean.

(the repairer may have blocked the lens contacts to make the camera operate in manual mode)
