Another question: when is it right to pay a model and when is it right to be paid as a photographer? Is there a clear distinction between the two situations?

You will have to research the legal situation in your jurisdiction to determine what appropriate usage is germane in regard to imagery you have taken...  Here across the pond a Model''s release is a bare minimum to protect one in litigation (but not from litigation).

As to who gets paid, supply and demand have always been prime movers in any marketplace...
