Today's Theme Song
What's your theme song for today? Post a link to a song or instrumental piece that illustrates or symbolizes Today for you... it could be based on the weather, or your mood, or your schedule, or your aspirations for the day... maybe something intended to inspire/motivate you as you go about your day. Or, if you're posting as the day is winding down, perhaps something that retrospectively defines how your day went. Today's theme song for me is based on a cool overcast rainy day, and a yearning to blow off my chores and just nestle under blankets on the comfy couch. I hadn't even thought that much about a theme song for any day of the week much less for today, Tuesday. I guess this would be my theme for today though: Nelson Riddle's Route 66, since I drove my Mustang with the top down this morning. This theme has always been a favorite of mine since I was a kid in St. Louis county so many years ago. https://youtu.be/vcZ1k4d02KA May 12 15 11:39 am Link Al Lock Photography wrote: Nice choice! It's all about leaving the past behind, going new places with new people and not being afraid to do it all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2KRpRMSu4g May 12 15 06:53 pm Link Woke this morning to a massive thunderstorm, so here's today's theme... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2AC41dglnM May 12 15 08:01 pm Link Lovely Day Media wrote: Ever heard Pete's original demo for that? It's pretty sweet, especially since it's kinda reminiscent of an old Elton John song in places. May 12 15 10:02 pm Link kickfight wrote: I didn't hear that demo before just now. It's definitely interesting. I think it would be interesting to know how they got from that demo to the recorded version, too. May 13 15 12:31 am Link Lovely Day Media wrote: Well, there's this, which is the demo that incorporates Pete's experiments with a Lowrey organ (using the "marimba" setting) run through a synth which created the "stuttering" phasing and other effects. As you can hear, it also has the piano part which John would adapt into forming his bass part. Pete's basic, primitive drumming subs for Keith's always-amazing work to come (it was Keith who suggested a violin solo during the "jig" sequence at the end, and so they got Dave Arbus from East of Eden to play it). A somewhat tighter edit of the demo, with Pete's guide vocals, is here. The horn-sounding touches in this edit are also provided by early synths in Pete's home studio arsenal. May 13 15 10:51 am Link Kick, this is one of the all time great threads! I hope it goes on for a very, very long time. I've always liked driving and riding music. For over fifteen years my wife and I rode a Gold Wing motorcycle all over the southeast and as far north as Wisconsin. The tape player often reverberated with terrific riding music like this: https://youtu.be/rMbATaj7Il8 May 13 15 11:56 am Link Frank Lewis Photography wrote: An eternal classic, that one, and kudos to you Frank for choosing that particular clip featuring that iconic scene from that iconic film! May 17 15 01:13 pm Link I will be outside most of the Day preparing the Garden along with a little help from Pearl Jam. May 18 15 07:14 am Link Wow, what a day... it's all too beautiful! May 18 15 10:56 am Link Today needs some vintage Skinny Puppy to clear the cobwebs from staying up way too late! May 19 15 12:59 pm Link Today's theme song is Pink Floyd's "Grantchester Meadows", possibly the most gentle and serene song in Floyd's entire catalog (Atom Heart Mother's "If" being a strong contender, although containing greater instrumentation, and thematically being way more traditionally-Floydian... a definite precursor to DSOTM's "Brain Damage". Also on Atom Heart Mother is "Fat Old Sun", another ultra-mellow, drowsy classic; plus, for me, one of Floyd's essential early tracks: Rick Wright's "Summer '68"). A quick note of interest about today's theme song: a sound effect (a goose's wings flapping on water as the bird takes flight) heard at about 4:25 was also used for the first (1969) release of The Beatles' "Across The Universe" on the World Wildlife Fund's charity album No One's Gonna Change Our World. That ol' Abbey Road sound effects library was sure put to good use by the folks who recorded there! May 20 15 12:46 pm Link May 21 15 07:59 am Link Today is all about POWER. King Crimson sample! May 21 15 11:31 am Link It's absolutely Alan Parsons Project's "Secret Garden" for today's theme song. May 22 15 11:38 am Link |
