A favorite of mine for the simplicity of cover and of course the music itself;

haha, since the giger shit was mentioned, i was going to post this...too late. the og had the notched/thatched corners. great cover.

and that was a fantastic fucking record, as well. it was miraculous how much music he was able to squeeze onto one lp record, without it blowing up.

good one. the whole package was nice. too bad it was small format. oh, i know they released a record, but most people didn't buy that.

the lenticular cover on aenima was pretty cool, too.

Yeah, Lateralus is one very memorable album.  And as for the artwork, the eye designs are supposed to represent chakras, I believe.  That image above has a very mystical element to it.

And, as a whole, Lateralus is a deeply spiritual album, just as much as any gospel album is.

as a metaphor--alone--lateralus is a great title, and concept; and is exemplified by the tune, schism. the eternal complexity of duality. it's a great record. i always equate it to being the 'dark side of the moon' of its generation.

the artwork was great, but the music is timeless.

you can go all fibonacci with the track sequence, but the way it was released is fucking fantastic. i burned that sucker through the acetate, when i first got it. smile

schism is the best left v right brain song i've ever heard.

Like most Tool songs, there are multiple interpretations for any of their lyrics, but I generally believe Schism to be about difficulties and communication in relationships.  I've heard other people say it's about a schism in Christianity, perhaps the Protestant Reformation, but I don't see it that way.

Lateralus is album to be experienced, not merely listened to, as well.  Despite being so intense, and often grinding, even, it is still one of the most beautifully composed albums, as far as I am concerned.

nah, dude, you're over-thinking it. smile it's just a song about reconciling the hemispheres. hence, lateralus. plus, he sings it in gregorian (straight 5ths) harmony. a total (perfect) dissection of one unit. it's a great tune. it's a lot simpler than i've heard people go on about. listen to it again with that in mind. it's two halves of the same brain, arguing.

Over-thinking it, eh? Reminds me of Lateralus, the song itself...

Perhaps, but as I said, there are many possible interpretations...

Though it probably is true that I over analyze things, as well.

listen to the song carefully. even in the beginning, the bass and guitar are sharing the intro. it takes a good ear to hear it. most musicians i know don't even pick up on that. it's a very intense, complex tune.

I know, and I agree.  And apparently, so does Loudwire.  They ranked Lateralus (the song) as the greatest metal song of the 21st century.

Fair enough.

Snakes and Arrows (2007) was a good album.  It reminded me a lot of their earlier work.
