Hello all, I have plenty of experience in modeling, but I am now more interested in doing photography. Please check out my portfolio. I have done about four shoots so far, two with the same model (as I'm sure you will notice). If you have any tips or critique please let me know!

I just reviewed someone elses  portfolio and I'm going to tell you what I told them.  Simple, simple, simple and start with the basics. A lot of your photos suffer from poor post work, bad styling, bad lighting or weird concepts. You're new so this is kinda expected but if you focus less on worrying about post work, styling and concept it can make it easier to focus on the basics (lighting, tones, posing, composition ect) This image is your strongest in my opinion

It seems like you're most interested in fashion/beauty work but your work is a little all over the place, you have a odd conceptual shot in there that really just feels out of place.  But assuming you want to shoot model photography I would start with clean, natural, portraits. They can be a bit boring but they're good to learn on because you don't have to worry about figuring out makeup, outfit or crazy poses or concepts.  And once you've mastered that style adding in more elements will go much smoother.  Also look at pro photographers work and noticed what elements they add to their images.  Certain makeup/fashion looks look tacky while others are high end.  Using people who already know what they're doing as a guide will really help you develop your own work.

Here's some photos but the wonderful Nick Suarez that show some simple portrait styles you might wanna start with.  They're all in a studio, but you can do the same thing outside with a white wall if you shoot at golden hour or in the shade. If you wanna add outfits, keep it simple at first.  Stick to the classics like blacks and whites, clean button up shirts plain t's and thanks, denim, sweaters ect.  Naturally you don't have to do this forever and experimenting with creative ideas is fun I just think these types of photos are a great place to start if you're new to model photography.

Just my two cents

Laura are these your portraits smile  They are stunning and yes a great place to start.

Keep it simple.  Learn to see light.  Capture a great exposure. Simple honest post work.

Forget concepts, create beautiful photography.  I work hard at this and try to improve something each time I shoot.

If you can't get color right.  Start with creating awesome black and white images.  Again its about the tonal range of your black and whites and what you want to create.

Also, be self critical, and shoot, shoot, shoot.  If you cant find a model to shoot shoot floral arrangements, bowels of fruit, vegetables, small statues.

Have a great time on your journey.  I know that I have on mine.

Omg no I'm not that good lol they're by Nick Suarez, he's amazing, I just needed a good portrait photographer as an example and I would feed snooty if I used my own work.
