I was not aware of any poaching of my images. About two years ago I did an image search for anything similar and it appeared I was unique--there was a female photographer an unknown who had a few images that some of the same background tonality but nothing else.

On this site I have read photographers who say it is a compliment if someone steals your images.

On Facebook, which I don't connect to my profile on this site, I accepted the friendship of a man from South America who was friends with someone I had met, someone who worked in magazines.

Said new friend liked my photos and then he took them and greyscaled them and put them on his facebook.

One was of a politician who paid me.  I wrote to the internet offender: "Take the photo down, please--it's of a politician who paid me."
Now this offender is connected to the fashion industry.   So, he made the beginners of an offer. He wanted to buy the photo, and he would double what I was paid. I asked him to name a price and most importantly what was it to be used for.  I got garbled answers--he was using a translator, a really bad one, and he had to talk to people and it was 72 countries and it was free advertising. If I didn't want it would be easy to get another photographer.

He took the photos down. He took down others too to which he down the same thing. He tried to make them look like drawings. So, I still had a great Memorial Weekend, battled internet monster, and I went to the Valley of Fire, and shot the photos using the Flat Picture Setting--I wanted to see if it would do a medium formatty thing with tones--it does blend shadows nicely-like film. I had your Memorial Weekend has been free of challenges, such as the misappropriation of your images.

I'm in no way a great Photographer but upon creation of a facebook account one of My images was immediately borrowed and edited by a friend of a friend.

Contacting facebook via the 'report this image' link forced its removal.

It's sad to hear, but for as long as we have right click save and screen capture functions making it all too easy for thieves and imposters to do their dirty deeds, we as creatives must remain vigilant in tracking them down.
Since finding my own work stolen and used for promoting things ranging from escort agencies to lighting workshops (even with watermarks intact)
I have learned the best way to help combat this is to only post low res copies wherever possible and to always have a prominent watermark.

Good for you. When I tried that, Facebook wouldn't process it.

It's the first time it is ever happen to me and I'm lucky that my facebook makes me look really big, in terms of my connections. I wrote to our mutual associate, for instance, who wants to work with me. I was surprised he jacked one of the beauty images, but Mr. Investor appears to be very strange.

Why didn't you file a DMCA takedown with YouTube?

Right on. Asserting your rights is so important. As soon as I saw that they used that in the opening of the video I thought it was outrageous. Also if the clip is monetized they are making some money, not much, but still, it is so important to champion yourself

Maybe one day I'll be as good as the OP and someone will 'steal' my images.   Although two of my images appear on several websites.   Which images were taken OP?   Are they on this site also.

Not worth my time , And there are too many others who have mis used the image to even keep track of

The Important thing to me was through the photography I made a connection with the Artist -as i gave him a photographic collage of his concert here - which he was very appreciative of

When he returned to perform here last summer ( after a 10 yr absence ) - I was given the VIP treatment and was the first person to be allowed to see him after the show

We have ( in his words ) beome "Brothers "

What could be better than that ?

I so admire Luciano and his Positive Conscious Message of Love and Spirituatliy

HIs Music has always resonated very strongly with me , and I just feel blessed to have gotten to know him

If you only post your worst pix, no one will steal them.

I once found someone using a photo of Bruno Dayan's. They had grey scaled it and were representing it as their own. I emailed him a link to the photo and he thanked me but said he didn't care, he had been paid... that it happened all of the time to him he said.I thought this was an interesting view for him to take.

Then you have no reason to be complaining about it.

A refrain all too often heard. That's why there is so much of it going on.

100's of thousands are doing the crime, nobody is doing the time.
