Mom save my first one. Not sure of the name, but it has the little red window in the back. :-) At one time or another, I used 3/4  of those mentioned here. Still have the Graphlex 4x5.

+1 this is exactly the same as myself.  My first 35 mm that I owned was a Mameya Sekor ( sp) and then a Kowa 2 1/4 single lens reflex

My dad got me a Mamyia Secor 500DTL when I was 10. I used it until it fell apart. In college I got a Minolta X-700 with MD-1 motor and three White Lightning WL-500's with umbrellas and a some background paper. God I loved that camera.

I used to steal my Dad's Nikon ... FM maybe? Then he bought me an FG-20, so I'd leave his alone.

I got rid of the lens in ... 2008 or so? And then a year or two ago I went through the effort of tracking it back down.

My old camera probably works too, but I never use it. Honestly, I don't think film cameras still working is that impressive; I didn't use it professionally, so I was never going to run enough film through it to kill the shutter.

Most of those guys had a shutter rating of some 40,000 clicks(when they even listed it), or 1,667 rolls of 35mm film.

Minolta SRT-102

I bought it with my first paycheck when I was 16 because my brother-in-law had one and I admired it as an incredible piece of machinery. It was absolutely magical to look through the viewfinder, frame up a shot, focus on the split screen ground-glass, align the match needle meter, hit the button to check the depth-of-field and depress the shutter for that satisfying tactile & audible feedback. The fact that I'd get back an envelope of 4x6" prints from the drugstore where I dropped off my film was initially just an added bonus! Oh, the places this little hobby has taken me!

Well, that depends on how you look at it.

The first camera that I bought myself with my own money was a Kodak Ektralite 10 that I bought in the spring of "79"
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/4f/79/3f/4f793fdf0c4a6defc8f9493e9c126f48.jpg

My first SLR, as with many photographers, was the Pentax K1000 that I bought in the Winter of "79"
https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3330/3641742012_122670f501.jpg

My first profesional grade body was a pair of Nikon F3's that I bought in "85".  One new F3 and then picked up a used HP version about two months later. I used those two bodies for 20 years till I got my first digital in 2005.

First camera used was a Petri that my brother had.  Bought it at K-Mart I believe.

MY first camera, when I finally got more serious about photography?  Nikon F2AS

https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3033/2762780121_7aa75ef35a.jpg

To this day it's still the best camera I've ever owned.  Built like a tank!

Wish Nikon could tear out the guts and put in some digital hardware.  Too bad eFilm (or whatever it was going to be called) never took off.  And funny how some cameras now are getting back to very basic and traditional styles.  I love the manual dials and aperture ring on my Fujifilm X-T1 and lenses.

When I started learning photography I first used the school's old manual Pentax SLRs.
Soon thereafter, my own first SLR was a Miranda Sensomat RE, great for beginning!
(still have a couple of the interchangeable  viewfinders)
Next better camera was a Nikkormat FTn, followed by Nikon FM & then Nikon FE.
Been a die-hard Nikon man ever since!

The camera I used first, when I was 11 and the camera was a Leica viewfinder camera, then, when I was 13 or so, my father had a different camera, don't remember the brand, but I remember the lens...

My first own camera was a Konica, which was the first SLR camera built compact and had sensors inside the film compartment that was reading the code for ASA settings on the film canister.

In 1984 (or so) I purchased my Minolta Dynax (Maxxum) 7000i, which I used until about 2004, when it died on me and then I switched to Nikon.

I've traveled to over 20 countries, every state in the U.S., and every major city in the United States. I have hiked thousands of miles of backcountry, including above base camp at the Matterhorn.  I worked at Yellowstone National Park, North Star Camp for Boys and Round Lake Resort as a Tripper for four summers during my college years. During the winters I skied the Rockies extensively, all the while carrying a Nikon SLR with a 50 mm 1.8 lens with me.

As a kid I had a Kodak Instamatic of some sort.  Then a Ashi Pentax, I don't remember which model and I don't remember that I had it very long or why it  was soon replaced by the Minolta SRT 101.  That Minolta was a great camera and I am pleasantly surprised how many people here owned one.  It  was a real workhorse for me during my school years.

When I started school I discovered View Cameras. I really fell in love with those.  I built my own from a kit during my freshman year.  At one point in the mid 1990's I owned and use 3 4x5s and 2 8x10s.  I even had a Deardorff for a while which is the only camera that I resent myself for selling.

With the move to digital and a closet full of stuff I was not using, I gave it all to my daughter during her college years to sell off on E-bay and keep the funds for herself.

I created some great images on those old cameras.  While I love working with the great new tools we currently enjoy, I laugh at people who think that having the next camera will change their careers.

I don't know the name of the camera.
However, I did not see it in the current lineup--however, this is the closest.
My Dad's was brown.
It was film.

We shot slides. 36 exposures. We conserved film so it was often months from the time the first shot was taken before we got to see the results. Nothing like today's instant feedback!  It's somewhat akin to punched cards for computers.

If someone wants to send me a line up I'll be happy to go through and see if I can pick out the perp! [LOL]
Or if you send by a sketch artist, I can give a verbal description and maybe he/she can sketch it out--if you really want to know the first camera that I can remember using.

My Dad's Argus C-3. It was a kick to be allowed to use it.  Funny - my Dad was never far from me while I had it in my hands,,,

Gosh, its been so long ago I really cant remember but the first 'professional' camera I bought was a Canon 1N-RS back in 1995.
Still have it, still use it and still looks as new as the day I bought it.

Borrowed my dad's Polaroid for the first day of time trials at Indianapolis in 1966. I actually got some good pictures with it.

First one I actually remember using was a kodak my parents had, don't remember the model, I was pretty young then, but I do remember it had these little flash cubes you could attach to the top, There was a bulb on each face and I don't think they were good for more than one shot per bulb, but the cube would rotate you you got a new bulb each shot. I loved playing with the spent cubes.

The first camera that was actually mine was a vivitar that shot 110 film. Not even sure that stuff is even around anymore.

The first "real" camera I used was a Canon AE-1P withl I think an 80-200 and 50mm lenses. Every time I see one on eBay or in a camera shop I am tempted to pick one up out of nostalgia.

I remember playing with those cubes. Ay about 5 - 6 years old, play consisted of surgery on them to see what was inside. Mom went apeshit of course. smile

First camera, a Kodak with the plastic film cartridge (110  I think). First camera I bought in late teens, a Pentax SLR (m something).
