Hey guys. So as a matter of principle, whenever I see anything "too good to be sure" I usually am not naive and know thats exactly what it is. I've received emails in this format before, and have tossed them to the wayside as they seemed so unbelievable...however, where's the scam come in if it is? It seems suspect when they ask for my "mailing address", "the shoot will be shot in a location near you" "paid half before job, and half after" etc etc, AND like I said, this format seems so familiar, I've recieved emails that read very very similarly. These all look like red flags, but what do they get out of it? If I don't receive a check before the gig as promised why would I do it? If I receive a check and put it in my account and its fraudulent, again why would I go on the gig?

Am I just being paranoid? Is this normal?

Here are the emails I received:

(*Not personalized* It just begins as is:)

Thanks for applying to my posting. (*I submit to loads of postings on MM and LAcasting/Actors Access so this could be from any of those sites*)

So I responded with my measurements. Then, got the followup email:

I'm so very sorry for my late response. I haven't been around, just got back from a fashion gig in Madrid,Spain.

Your details/stats are very okay. Your pictures will be taken in different poses to update the clothing line portfolio. Also, the shoot will not contain ANY NUDITY. The shoot will be on either NOV 5 or NOV 12 depending on your availability. The shoot will start by 10:00 AM and end by 2 PM NOON, its just a four hours shoot.  You won't need to travel out of the state for the shoot, because it will be held close by.

As a matter of choice, you can come along with anyone of your choice to accompany you to the shooting venue in order not to feel lonely. Our company will be taking care of you and providing a driver that will be picking you from your home to the shooting venue if you don't have a car. We have a pose instructor to work with you so as to give you the best poses for good shots.

As part of my working policy and ethics, I receive payment from any client before I proceed with any job, this is to identify a serious client and ascertain the job.Your payment for the shoot is $700,please be informed that your payment will be paid in two installments, part payment of $300 will be mailed to you first and the balance of $400 after the shoot.I will get in touch with the client to have payment mailed to you.

SEND PAYMENT DETAILS IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

Name to be written on check:
Complete Mailing address (No P.O Box):

Best regards

I'm of course weary of giving someone I don't know (over email even) my full address - this is the biggest red flag to me

If anyone could shed some light on this I'd be really appreciative

Thanks guys!

Your post (and the e-mails) are very long.  This line is all I need.  It's a prelude to "Here's a check for $900; send $200 to the fashion / makeup / coordinator person".  Why do you care how much the "total pay" is?  You are only concerned about your compensation, and unless you are the budget director, everything else is really none of your business.

Scam.

There is no gig.

Scam has been around for decades!  Nigerian Scam

Since you responded to them by email, they now have yours.
They also have any other contact/location info you may have passed on.
Expect many more!
Cease all replies to them, or any other unsolicited emails you will likely now be getting.
Do not try to cash or deposit any payment they may send. They are Fake!
Absolutely, do not forward any portion to any others. You will lose it!

Estimates are that 35-40% of Nigeria's national income is gained through scams like this. Other nationalities also run such scams. It is DANGEROUS to make contact, especially any real world contact, with such criminals.
